"I'd heard great things about this coffee shop so persuaded my friend to give it a try for our lunch. It was full and there were people waiting outside when we arrived. Rather than it putting us off and try elsewhere we thought if it's that good then we'll go back in an hour. So glad we did, we had a great welcome, a lovely big mug of coffee, the best toasties ever tasted with homemade coleslaw and salad, chips and a massive slice of homemade cake (had to bring it home, as full). The decor and friendly staff added to our very enjoyable visit and we will certainly visit again. Highly recommend and fully support independent businesses that care about you and their staff"

"I recently went back to my favorite restaurant to celebrate my birthday with a friend. We started with the smoked salmon appetizer, followed by a delicious steak diane and a huge rump steak. The highlight was the amazing pfeffersteak that was so tender, my knife cut through it effortlessly. The restaurant displays their price menus and opening hours at the entrance on Whitefriargate. The friendly atmosphere and good food make this restaurant a must-visit. The silver service adds a personal touch to the dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic meal."

"The cocktails at this restaurant are amazing, both from their classic and seasonal menus. I highly recommend trying the Penicillin and the amaretto and cherry sour. The servers are friendly and well-informed, and the small details like providing water and the personalized touches on the drinks, such as a birthday cake cocktail with a personalized card, really make this place stand out. I will definitely be returning, I absolutely loved it."

"Decided to go for a nice lunch out as weather was nice, walked into restaurant which was freezing (colder than what it was out side), we were seated directly in front of the open door and the draft was so cold. I asked for the door to be shut, I was told they can’t shut the door and we were told to move to the table behind, which was still in line with the door, defeating the object of moving. I asked to sit in the corner of the restaurant and was told no as it had to be a table of 2 we were seated at. I asked another member of staff to shut the door and they said no because it is too hot for the members of staff who were “running” around, even though it was really quiet. I explained that i don’t want to eat in a freezing cold restaurant that’s drafty as my food will get cold. I was told to put my jacket on by a member of staff, which had an extremely rude tone to it , and also why would I want to sit and eat a meal with my jacket on? She said if we don’t want to be cold, we can go eat elsewhere and gave us 5 minutes decide whether we wanted to order food. By the time They brought our drinks over, we said we were going to leave, they asked us to pay for our drinks that we hadn’t touched, we declined due to the staff failing to accommodate to us and being rude. The fact they would rather us leave than simply close the door or move us to a different table is disgusting and I felt that because I am a young person, they felt like they could belittle me. This is a real shame as the food and drinks here are really nice, but I’m not going to give my money to a restaurant who only accommodate to their staffs needs and not the customers. They could’ve easily shut the door or moved us out of line with the door, absolutely ridiculous and awful service."

"Firstly this is not something that I would normally do, but was just so incredibly disappointed by our experience tonight 27/10/23. Took mum for a birthday meal(85), she loves it here, but the restaurant was absolutely freezing. If we wouldn't have had our outdoor coats in the car, there would have no way we could have stayed with mum. All the customers were complaining how cold it was with the poor waitress having to constantly apologise. One couple had managed to requisition a small heater from somewhere and had it plugged in near their table. The food was lovely, as always, but very quickly became cold before we could finish it. I felt so sorry for my mum, as she kept apologising for asking to go there,. As i say, food was good but evening just ruined by lack of heating."

"Really disappointing as Italian is my favourite food yet everything was off with this place. The carbonara is vile and I’m not been rude, Rick hard panchetta, not fresh, too flavoursome too, over powering flavour. The staff let this place down, the waitresses kept bringing things and walking away before we had chance to ask for anything, this happened 3 times. They even ignored me when I said excuse me, which annoyed me. Looked like they were also talking about us from the bar. Not very professional atall. My eyes were stinging from the fumes in the kitchen and we had a window table. All in all not happy for the price of the menu and the poor customer service. I received better service at McDonald’s yesterday then here. If you’re looking for a dining experience avoid this place."

"Visiting Hull for the first time. Fancied a Thai meal. Booked but found the place virtually empty at 7.30 on a Friday night not a good sign. Ordered the set meal for 2. Waited over half an hour for food good sign I thought obviously freshly prepared. Whilst we waited the bin from the kitchen which was full was wheeled through the restaurant. Then once emptied wheeled back through. Prawn crackers eventually arrived looked like a whole meal version not great. Eventually the starters arrived. Pork skewers which looked like a piece of bacon on a skewer one of which was stone cold. A Thai fish cake which was like a piece of rubber with no flavour. Prawn toast without a hint of prawn. Thank goodness for the peanut sauce which made the tasteless rubbish edible. The mains arrived. The first dish was bland and watery. The next two had a little taste but not great. My partner said the food has made me grumpy that has never happened. Paid quickly and left feeling sick. Headed to Tesco for chocolate. Do not waste your money."

"Booked a table for 8 originally but increased to 10 for my mother in laws birthday today at 2pm . We even popped in to pay a deposit and ask if we needed to preorder . Because he recognised us told us not worry about either we regularly visit 3/4 times a year as a large family and then also as couples and smaller groups at other times . Received a call today to preorder food and told to use Facebook menus . Which we all did . 7 of us choose the set menu on your facebook page with a glass of wine . When been asked for our drinks order we asked for our glass of wine on set menu . To be told that menu was no longer available and the wine would not be honoured even after showing the only set menu on your Facebook page has a glass of wine and included and is still online after our complaint (see picture) If some of us had known this we would of chosen off main menu . If it hadn’t been my mother in laws choice of restaurant for her birthday, I think we would of left . The food was nice, but no draught beer , card machine not going only excepting cash or bank transfer . Really disappointed and dont think we will be returning ."

"Yesterday we went to RJs. We ordered one warm chocolate, one latte, and two small toasted tea cakes. It used to cost less than ten pounds, which was decent value. However, now it is a steep £11.70. We used to go to this restaurant every time we were in town, but after this price hike, we will not be returning. The owners made a big mistake with this increase, as prices are already expensive. It is unlikely that they will survive much longer with such high prices. Good luck to them."

"I understand it’s the first week of them operating again ,but more than 1 hour wait for food it’s ridiculous. I wouldn’t mind if the food was worth it. I ordered a Pulled Pork hot dog , and what I got was Pulled bacon hot dog. As soon as the food arrived I could see it wasn’t pulled pork hot dog , I mentioned to waitress who replies “oh it’s just under the melted cheese” and went away. I doubled checked it and realised it was actually bacon cut in pieces !!! nothing close to pulled Pork. I didn’t even bother saying anything because I wasn’t willing to wait another hour for the food.... the chips were nice..."

"we picked here for our double date night. we was struck straight away by the great layout and decor...effort has gone in. we all ordered from a very helpful and attentive waiter. the foot arrived prompt and plentiful! we loved the food, felt authentic too. we had some good banter with the waiter about how good it was which led the owner to come and chat to us. its great to go somewhere that is so attentive and has that personal touch. for me its that attention which makes this place special. we will be back again"

"There is a lot of potential for this restaurant, as I arrived with four colleagues who have been here before. However, I have experienced long wait times in the past. On this particular visit, we all wanted a full breakfast, but the restaurant was quite empty during the slow winter trade. Despite this, all of the directors were having a meeting for merging companies and asked us to wait outside in the rain. They could have offered for us to wait in the entrance, but it seemed like they were not concerned about losing our business. As a result, the four of us will not be returning and I will not be recommending this restaurant to my staff. It is clear that the management does not prioritize their customers."

"I used to frequent this restaurant years ago when I lived in Hull. Will go as far as saying it was unrivalled when it came to the quality of the food it served. Hence, when I had the opportunity to visit again when I found myself in Hull, I was quite happy and had anticipated a good quality meal. Went there with my family, and the food was one of the worst I’ve experienced, verging on inedible. It’s a shame as it used to be a place the offered really good food."

"My family and I (a party of 8, including 2 children) had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. I want to give a special shoutout to our waitress, Kii, who was incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to interact with the children and make them laugh! Although the service for food and drinks was a bit slow, it wasn't too terrible. The pizzas were delicious, and some of us also enjoyed the desserts. The prices were reasonable, and we definitely plan on returning in the future."

"WOW! I really fancied a proper burrito for lunch and not from a fast food outlet where there is no character or flavour to the food! A quick google search pulled up this little food outlet in the indoor trinity market in the old town! its been a long time since i have been in here and its changed so much! We ordered 3 different meat filled burritos and we all enjoyed them. They were well filled and contained lots of meat! All the burritos were freshly prepared to order. You are given an electric buzzer which indicated your order was ready so you can sit and chill. The burritos only cost £5 each and for the size of them i feel this is a bargain! We did also try the Jarritos Mexican cola and to be honest for £3.50 I wasn't impressed. I'd recommend either a normal coke or a different flavour of Jarritos if your feeling lavish. The service from the lady was very friendly and helpful too Overall a very enjoyable lunch and plenty of dessert places for pudding!"

"Blown apart by the tawook dish... i think is the only dish I have eaten in Hull that I can say I can just eat it until I explode. "The completely unprofessional and ill tempered staff with the exception of the chef ruined our trip to the gallery. First the poor woman on the till trying to take orders lacked training and was completely out of her depth. There were two waitresses and one had to supervise her all the time so that created more pressure. After a long wait to order in a queue of only 3 we chose a table. It wasn't busy as we were quite early for lunch with around 12 diners were in. I talked to the lady trying to work the till, asked her if she'd had any training working it before customers arrived. She said no, they are in at the deep end. I told her she had my sympathy and as there was a Suggestion Box right in front of me I said I'd make a constructive suggestion re training. But there were no cards to write on. A waitress tore me a scrap of paper to use. Quite quickly a waitress brought my friends meal, which looked very nice and said mine would be a bit later. This was unprofessional as people having lunch together want to eat at the same time. Then the waitress came back again and apologised saying she had brought that meal to the wrong table. Unfortunately my friend had already eaten some as it was getting cold. The waitress said mine would be a longer wait now as they were backed up. A few more people had just arrived. By this time my friend was halfway through her meal and it was obvious we were not going to be eating together and lunch would take much longer than usual. As we only had 2 hours for eating then looking around the gallery I went to the till and told them to cancel my meal. I got a refund, my friend eat half her food and we left. While at the till getting the refund and in front of the queue of around 9 people the older waitress gave an aggressive diatribe about how mistakes happen, they do their best, short staffed, lack of training etc etc etc. She reeled off so many excuses for the abysmal service it sounded well rehearsed. I get it that she is badly trained, short staffed. Management need to deliver what these women need to perform their roles effectively and professionally."

"Having booked to go to Wroclaw in December we decided to try some authentic Polish Cuisine in Hull. We now can't wait to get to Poland to try some more polish delights! Kuchnia is a lovely restaurant, and the staff are brilliant. Anna was so helpful explaining what was in all the dishes. The food itself was fantastic. Never mind going to some poncy michelin star restaurant, get yourself here!............However if you want microwaved food that is served 3 min after you order, don't. This is freshly prepared food that is cooked to perfection, so you have to wait a while. Great evening, we will be returning in the near future"

"We’ve been coming to sailmakers every week for a good year now but the last 3/4 times we hav eaten the steak skillets have been really bad the portions are just enough to feed a child our most recent visit 02/02/2024 we ordered a skillet it didn’t come sizzling like it should the food was cold I asked 3 times for peppercorn sauce which I’d paid for separately ! By the time it did my husband had finished his meal who also said his meal was cold and very small but ate it anyway as he was soo hungry . I complained to the waitress I’ll get you some more chips ? I explained I’d still not received my peppercorn sauce either she was gone ages in the meantime my food was even colder . She brought 2 bowls of hot chips out peppercorn sauce I said the rest of my food is cold my husband has eaten his she said you can still eat the chips I told her I want a refund I’m not paying for a child’s portion of food that is stone cold she said ok I’ll will have to take your meal away so she did and offered a free pudding ? Which I declined This will be the last time I eat in at the sailmakers !!! don’t know if they have a new chef and been told to cut back on portions 11 cold chips an 8oz Luke warm rump as big as the palm of my hand With a table spoon of peas half of tomatoe doesn’t even fill the skillet the plate just looks empty good job we ordered extras 4 pieces of scampi 5 onion rings what a insult"
