"By chance I had arranged to have lunch here on one of their new menu tasting days. This meant it was a little busier than you'd expect on a weekday lunch hour but also that everything was half price. Being guinea pig to their chefs was frankly fantastic and at £13 odd for a starter, two mains, a flat white and a peppermint tea you couldnt fault it. The food was fresh, imaginative and cooked to perfection. The fish taco starter reminded me of sunny days in California while the beef with chimichurri sauce left me dreaming of Argintina. This place claims to deliver classic British food I'd dispute this but say it's none the worse for it. Service was very friendly and quick enough without...read more"

Even though we only went for lunch, the Apiary delivered a big meal in terms of atmosphere and flavour. What was once just a background feature of my daily commute has now become one of my and Mr. B’s favourite lunching spots. We’ll definitely be back to sample their dinner menu soon!

This restaurant has nice decor, friendly staff and some good food. It is a pity that the serving times are quite extraordinarily slow and one is kept waiting 30 or 40 minutes for one’s food. If you have something to do, for example a train to catch or a scheduled hospital visit, this is profoundly inconvenient and irritating. I assume that in the restaurant trade there is some generally accepted waiting time. Whatever that time is, The Apiary exceeds it.

The ambiance was not our cup of tea seemed like a place for students and other University types. The seat covers looked a little tired and not clean. I thought the food was excellent overall. The Scallop starter was on the bland side but the Beef blade bourguignon was really nice. Bit strange no mushrooms in the dish and the pancetta was a bit rough (Spanish rather than Italian? The smoked potato was a new experience but a good one. The staff were attentive.

I can't sing that the apiary praises enough. I've been here several times and everyone was visiting was stellar. the eating is well portioned and inspired by the whole world, on this wise not dissimilar to blonde on st. leonards street. her imagination and the daring with her menu she really deals with exotic meats regularly with (colm and ilma! here and the crazyest ice creams (they remember pink pfefferminz and white chic, pb and j and lemon and basilikum . is not disappointed to the special attention of the magnificent seafood acts and the entire dessert menu. her lunch menu of 2 curses for 10 £ and pre theater 2 courses for 15 £ is incredibly valuable. it is...read more

I'm sure I am not alone in thinking that late February can be a bit grim. Whilst spring is tantalisingly just round the corner, the second month of the year can still dampen spirits, with its short days, long nights and stormy weather. Sometimes, a pick me up is needed at this time of year. And what better to boost spirits than visiting a new restaurant that is generating a bit of a buzz? I had already been hearing good things – from the likes of Lunchquest and Scotland on Sunday’s Richard Bath – about The Apiary, even though the place only opened a few weeks before Christmas 2013. Occupying premises in Edinburgh’s Newington district that previously housed the Metrople...read more

...The Apiary fuses rustic charm with foodie goodness to create the perfect relaxed dining environment. I had no preconceptions about the restaurant before we visited it for lunch, due to being in the area. S.o. had heard good things, but mostly just liked the chic look of it from streetside. Upon entering, we were greeted by a seemingly scatty waitress, who turned out to be absolutely lovely. Sometimes a casual approach to the service is just what is needed, and both ladies working behind the bar were beyond lovely, so all good on that front. Looking at the menu, I would have loved to sample virtually all of their dishes. The complex gastronomic wonders were something that I was...read more

I've had lunch at Apiary two days in a row, even though it's across town from me, so that should tell you something. Love the restaurant setting, it's lovely to sit in a booth by the window with the sun streaming in. Tried quite a few things on the new spring menu, loved the boudin noir, I'm assured the lamb tostada is also fantastic. The duck confit had a perfectly crunchy skin and beautifully cooked meat underneath, paired well with greens buckwheat noodles and a star anise sauce. The peanut butter jam ice cream with the rocky road is a taste sensation and the mess is delicious for those with a sweet tooth. A few other things still need a bit of tweaking but overall the menu is...read more

The Apiary is absolutely lovely, and it feels like you are stepping into a world of charm and decadence. I first came two weeks ago with a group of friends. The decor is beautiful and the place is charming and elegant but also feels like it is romantic yet unpretentious. When I first came I ordered a vegetarian for my main that was served over couscous. Having traveled in Morocco two years ago, my expectations for an authentic tajine were quite high but I was a bit disappointed by it since it was underwhelming compared to my neighbours' 3Bees Bird and Beasts sharing platter it was absolutely massive and astounding! The quality of the meat was also superb (my manly friends were kind...read mo...

I usually don't entrust s.o. to make our dining choices, but after we visited The Apiary I think I'll let him do so more often. A sister restaurant to Bruntsfield's The Three Birds, which I have yet to try, The Apiary fuses rustic charm with foodie goodness to create the perfect relaxed dining environment. I had no preconceptions about the restaurant before we visited it for lunch, due to being in the area. S.o. had heard good things, but mostly just liked the chic look of it from streetside.
