"We booked Sunday lunch here mainly because it was the pub in the village that my dad spent some of his childhood in, so it was more for nostalgia. However we were not disappointed with the lunch. The meat was plentiful and the beef was...so tender, the yorkies were homemade and the vegetables were all fresh (not a frozen pea in sight! . The puddings were decent size portions too....none of your designer stuff! All in all a lovely lunch in a quaint village pub with lovely staff too."

First time for lunch in 2019. We wouldn't have left it this long but for a busy winter schedule. We needn't have worried splendid lunches still available! Warm welcome, hearty menu, good ale and a roaring fire! Until the next time..........

We’ve just returned from a great Sunday roast we hadn’t booked but the landlord was very obliging and managed to fit us in. The meal was tasty and service good. There was a good lively atmosphere of locals in the bar. I would recommend...as a local place to get a roast.

Regular readers will know that we very much like this place. We booked a table for Sunday Lunch today to coincide with our 35th Wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed! Bill's legendary roast really hit the spot and the atmosphere and banter in the...pub was brilliant! Really nice to see jovial Malcolm behind the bar. Roll on the next visit!

we booked here mainly on Sundays because it was the pub in the village where my father spent some of his childhood, so it was more for nostalgia. we were not disappointed in lunch. the flesh was plentiful and the bark was. so delicate, the yorkies homemade and the sweetness was all fresh (not a frozen baptism in itself! . the puddings were also decent size shares....no one of their designer things! all in all a beautiful lunch in a rustic village pub with beautiful staff also.

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
