"Was looking forward to going for Sunday tea at the newly refurbished restaurant but I can honestly say the experience was so disappointing. Service was poor from beginning to end. We were seated and no drinks order taken, we had to go to the bar ourselves. Two of the fours of us ordered starters but soup very salty. Three of us ordered the same main meal of chicken stack, when they came one was only half the portion of the other two and had more bacon and cheese than chicken, I mentioned this to waiter who then sent over a more senior female waitress, who frankly was rude and disinterested, but offered to arrange for more chicken to come out, well as I write this comment four hours later I am still waiting. The chicken which I did get was tough and tasteless. The wrong side orders came out and we had to continually ask for drinks which surprise surprise they got wrong. We asked for sweet menus of which we received two different menus, so had to wait to have them sort out which was the right menu and after we ordered dessert, well guess what they came back a few mins later to say what we ordered was no longer available. Apart from the good company of friends I can truly say haven't had a more disappointing experience in years. I will definitely not be back or will I recommend to anyone."

Ate here for five weeks during a training course the staff were fantastic, the food was always tasty and plentiful. More than made up for missing 'home cooking '.

Newly refurbished. Pleasant. Average food at way over the top prices. We were a party of four and were charged extra for a spoonful of gravy. I thought this was mean.

Went there for a family Sunday lunch yesterday and it was amazing , beautiful food and very good service, large portions ensure you won't go home hungry. The Roast Beef dinner was amongst the best I have ever had. It was clean plates all round. 3 adults and 2 kids having mains courses, deserts and drinks came to £83. Not bad. I will be back again.

My auntie took us out for a meal we had been to an other hotel bar but my auntie is a plain eater so we left I knew she would get wholesome food there , The staff where so kind to my auntie .The makeover of the restaurant is lovely (it was well over due . This might be a strange thing to say the portions are smaller but better ! ! Still value for money . Well done The Ivanhoe

Early evening meal with my wife and 6 year old daughter. Friendly staff but all a little disorganised and a little amateurish. The menu was rather limited and basic. Shared platter for starter rather greasy. Main courses lacked seasoning and rather bland. Pet hate in that mains arrived too quickly after starters. They have clearly spent a significant amount money on the premises and it is disappointing that they haven't made the same effort in the restaurant. Live locally and we are unlikely to return.

We made a reservation for the Ivanhoe hotel just for an overnight stay. On our arrival we found the reception area in total chaos, apparently it is under going a complete refurbishment., but our room took us by complete surprise. It was a lovely spacious airy room, with a spotless bathroom, and a brilliant walk in shower, overall very pleasant, as were the staff. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant which we thought to be good value for the money. Next morning we left after a cooked breakfast totally rested . I would recommend this hotel. because it is affordable and very comfortable.

I had a meal in the Ivanhoe Hotel Bistro restaurant on Saturday evening. We were a group of 4 and we were glad we had booked our table as we arrived to find a busy, vibrant restaurant where they already had people waiting on tables. We were taken to our table immediately and settled with the offer of a drink and our menus. The order was taken and our meal was served in a friendly and helpful manner. The food was great and there was a good choice on the menu and all 4 of us really enjoyed our meals, which were served piping hot and promptly. The atmosphere was friendly and lively and the staff were helpful and friendly. This restaurant has had a total refurbishment and has changed from being a...

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."

"I'm an American. I was invited to work at the queen’s university in a global conference. my airline has moved my baggage, so I stopped in the barking dog to use her wlan to check the status of my baggage and have a drink and a snack with my associate who has unusual allergies. the menu had nothing to call us, so we have decided to finish and move only our drinks./ at no point has anyone informed that it is illegal to have only drinks, and our server ran our review without mentioning any legal requirements. After I paid, someone who I suspect, the manager, came to the table and checked our reception. exactly what I thought was what they said before they cheated on me how it is illegal to buy drinks in a restaurant without eating. I apologised and explained that I had no warning. I offered to buy food retroactive and they refused. then they repeated that I was in a restaurant and not in a pub and that my activities were illegal. they denied my multiple attempts to apologise me while I explained that I am not out of the opposite. this experience was very confusing for me, because the night before me had drinks in a restaurant without food and it was no problem. in any case I was told that there is no such law and that the ordering of drinks without eating in a restaurant is very common. I've never been treated so badly in a customer service dynamic and I'm not sure why this happened. I feel targeted and totally mistreated for what does not seem to be a good reason. To finish it, it was my birthday. complete error in the name of what this person was. I will say the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating."
