Upper House Islington

I have to admit that it was the name that attracted me. We had been attending a workshop in Islington and we wanted somewhere for lunch. A little darker than the average lunchtime venue but the food and service was great. Recommend

We hired the Ballroom (max 80 people) for our engagement party and the Dead Dolls House was absolutely fantastic. The service beforehand and on the night was great and the food got compliments all night as there were healthy vege options available. The venue had a lower minimum spend than other places which was a factor in choosing them. Gorgeous brick walls and just the right space and decorations. Would use again in a heartbeat.

If you are looking for an intimate venue for your wedding meal in this area then I can 100% recommend this place. Private room with bar (up a few flights of stairs so take that into consideration) Food was absolutely fantastic and well presented. Set-up of the Room was first class. Well stocked bar and friendly proficient staff. The young girl who tended the bar was a real credit to the establishment,unflappable, good skills and a friendly demeanour. Visited Saturday lunch intending on having the brunch menu. Quirky building at first glance it appeared chabby chic but soon realised it was quite dirty. Walked in they only serve craft ales as beer no normal larger for the hubby. Ordered 2 drinks both had run out at noon on a Saturday so no one had checked the pulls. Had 2 bottles of Sol, asked for sliced lime which the staff used their fingers. it was quite lively upstairs as they do a bottomless offer. Decided not to eat there so got the bill which had a service charge on? Not even waitress service so didn’t pay the extra. Won’t be back.

Additionally, hiring the room for the day meant having a designated barman present throughout, who unfortunately lacked initiative and seemed disinterested in his role. Some orders were even delivered late, with one arriving after most guests had finished eating. There was also a lack of a designated point of contact to address any issues that arose throughout the day. Overall, the room did not have the "wow" factor we were hoping for in a surprise party venue. We would not choose to book here again and would advise others to visit the venue in person before making a deposit to ensure satisfaction.

I recently held my 30th birthday party at The Dead Dolls House and I was extremely happy with the venue. I highly recommend them for event planning. Emily and her team were very helpful, laid back, and efficient. I want to give a special thanks to the lady who served us at the bar all night, I was so grateful for all of her help. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the staff were all very friendly. My friends and I had a fantastic time in the cool and fun space, and the package was great value for London. I celebrated my 30th birthday and had a great night. Staff were very helpful and accomodating. Venue was lovely, music good (rnb/pop and food was quite good considering the price (quite cheap for a place like this in Islington . I do have 2 complaints however, one is the lack of air con. I specifically asked about air con before booking as I have learned from previous birthdays and was promised it will be there. I could see the unit but it wasn't on and we asked several times and it didn't impact everyone dancing as it was boiling! We hired the Ballroom pretty last minute for our office's summer party. Nadine was great at helping me organise it and explaining everything to me. They were very flexible with our various dietary requirements and also with how we paid for the event, they were able to adjust to suit our processes which meant that we were actually able to go ahead with the event. I had been worried the food might not be enough for everyone but it definitely was, everybody also thought the food was delicious. I reserved the private dining room for a 30th birthday 3 course dinner and was somewhat let down. We had a party of 24 people and collectively spent a significant amount of money. However, I was disappointed with the quality of the food. The starter consisted of cut up beetroot balls and the dessert was lacking with only two small, stale brownie blocks. At £39.20 per person, without any alcohol included, the meal was not worth raving about considering what was described on the menu. The staff were helpful during set up, but during dinner service, they seemed to be rushing us by clearing plates before we were done eating.
