"We stopped for a light lunch here with no expectations, and were completely charmed by the location (a cosy traditional tavern next to the 18th c. post office), the service (even though we only ordered soup, it was cheerfully and quickly served, piping hot, with bread and butter) and the food (delicious traditional goulash and an imaginative lentil soup with a chili pesto). In homage to the post-office, old packets of mail and the postman's horn are suspended from the ceiling). Would love to go back."

Great traditional dishes. Good, friendly staff. Catering to both tourists (how could you not in Melk) and locals. Great schnitzel and rundsuppe.

Spent a night here and the service was great. Room was very nice and looked out on the square and to the Abbey. Very good location and the food was great and the beer was cold! Visualizza piatti

Destination quality fine dining in this charming, relaxed family hotel. We were lucky enough to be here in marillen season (the unique local sweet apricots) and the dumplings were wonderful. Stay for breakfast, with home made jams. A really great find.

Veal broth with asparagus, Camembert and morels as a starter. Lamb crust with mustard on young Spitzkraut and carrot and tarragon semolina, as the main course. What a delicious combination. And all this crowned by good Austrian wine. What else can you expect of dinner. Well, of-course a crème brulee.

Having spent an idyllic day in Melk visiting the Abbey and town, what better place to sit down and have a meal or a cool drink. The restaurant is ideally situated to view the picture post card town and the towering view of the Abbey above. The friendly staff help to make any visit a most enjoyable experience. We had lunch in this restaurant in July 2017. We ordered tomato creme-soup. It was good. But the portion which was defined as big (the small one also is available) was rather regular than big. Also we ordered sausages in goulash source. These were the worst sausages we've eaten in Austria. Like were bought in the nearest shop. Even the sausages in small kiosks in Vienna were much more tasty. We were completely disappeared. The location is good. The service is also ok.

We stayed in Melk for two nights in October in order to visit the Stift. Hotel zur Post is a family run, very friendly hotel. We had an excellent room overlooking the main square with a lovely view of the Stift. The room was clean, very comfortable, and breakfast was excellent. We had Dinner in the hotel's restaurant one night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent cooking, varied menu, great service, good range of wines, lovely atmosphere. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

"Gasthofs all seem to have the same menu and there are only so many schnitsels you can eat, so we were all looking forward to eating here because of the great reviews. Koloman is going for the chic trendy look, but this doesn't really work...as it's clientel are neither chic nor trendy, it is a tourist burger joint. It is busy one though as many of the tables were reserved. We were shown to table which was much lower than the chair and people were having to eat dinner from their lap, it was also uncomfortably hot and people on neighboring tables were smoking which my wife hates, so we asked if we could eat inside as the other tables were busy or booked. This was so inconvenient for the waiter his sighs were embarrassing. In the end we were offered the table that was previously occupied by some staff. It was fine once we wiped away all the cigarette ash. The burgers are quite pricey for Austria and fries, sauce, onion rings are all extra. Not terrible, but not cheap for what you get. The burgers are pretty good, though not in my top 20. Good quality meat but a bit overcooked and dry, which may be why they arrived just a few minutes after ordering were they cooked before we ordered? We ordered cocktails, I love a margherita but you can't order a normal one here, you have to have a banana or kiwi one which is not cool, there didn't seem to be much booze in it either. We were out the door barely half an hour after arriving, we didn't really enjoy the ambience of the restaurant, the surly waiter, the cigarette smoke, or the beating sun which shooed us away before we could look at the desert menu. The burger was decent, and certainly better than burger chain fodder. Mostly, this place isn't half as cool as it thinks it is."
