"We were greeted very warmly and the service in the bar was very good. We were then seated to our table and again the service and tentative waiter was very good, however we order bread to share initially and that didn't arrive until after the starters, which wasn't a real problem but they did say they would remove off the bill which was a nice touch. The starters were really nice but when the main course arrived, they got mine and my partners meals mixed up and initially we didn't realise, so we started eating each others meals, once I had realised I was eating pork rather than lamb, (I wish I had stuck with the pork dish as my lamb was a bit crispy) we swapped it over, it was a good job neither of us minded, both my other half and friend really enjoyed there meals. Lastly, when it came to paying at the end of the evening, the bread was still included on the bill and an additional item added, these were quickly removed and a new bill presented so no real issue. We dined here on New yeas eve, so maybe due to it being really busy took the shine off my experience a little and albeit I thought our waiter Keiren was really good, overall I was slightly disappointed. However, I do like it at Merchants and will definitely be returning in 2017."

Nice table with a view out to St Mary 's Church, good service and delicious and reasonably priced food from the market menu . I was staying at the hotel anyway, so this was an added bonus.

Once again friendly staff,great food great service. Had Sunday lunch great rare beef, everything cooked to perfection,lovely cauliflower cheese. Nothing too much trouble. Recommend this highly

Excellent food not to be missed. Ample portion sizes and you'll do well to manage 3 courses. Great value in January/February when it's possible for 2 people to dine with 2 courses and a bottle of house wine for £29 Sun-Thurs.

Want to mention the bar/waiting staff particularly as they were super attentive and helpful, giving advice about the food and not just trying to get us to order as many sides as possible, which is what we're finding in many restaurants.

Good food and although at Christmas, the menu wasn't just Christmas related (This was a birthday meal). Very busy but to be expected but the service was there and very polite. Food was good and the value was excellent also. Would go back again.

Was really lovely but the food was so so salty! I understand it was near Christmas but was a very limited menu the belly pork we had still had the string on so had to pick out!! Thank goodness we ordered a side otherwise would have been just pork salty cabbage! The staff were fab though we had a great cocktail but for a 30th birthday celebration just didn't feel very special.
