"We enjoyed a really good two-night break at Lifton Hall. The room was perfect and we really enjoyed our stay. The food in the restaurant was perfect we enjoyed it so much it should put other hotels we have stayed in to shame....I attribute this to the personal touch of the chef/proprietor and a well-trained staff. The tasting menu offered wonderful flavours to tempt and tease the taste buds from the amuse bouche to the main course and the dessert, coffee and chocolates. Absolutely wonderful! The following night we enjoyed a mushroom stroganoff- although I thought it a bit over-zealous with the mustard and polished it off with gusto! And so to breakfast. The quality of the bacon, sausages and eggs shone through (who needs baked beans, mushrooms, tomato and all that malarkey in a simple English breakfast cooked well. The next day was the big test. I ordered scrambled eggs. Would they be steamed, dried, rubbery as is the case of 95% of hotels? Not at all. Huzza!!! Perfect scrambled eggs, moist and buttery and a delight to taste and enjoy! Well done Mr. Breakfast Chef. Also a special mention to waitress Lauren. The epitomy of great restaurant service. A star! (Tell the youngsters to refrain from referring to guests as guys The hotel and restaurant are brilliant. We hope to re-visit! Well done all."

Great service, good range of menu options. Only comment would be the lighting was a little on the bright side and if more subdued, would have made the ambiance more relaxing and less stark.

we were in the hotel and ate every evening in the restaurant. the selection of food is good, the quality of the food is excellent, and the cook is very helpful for special needs regarding food.

The rooms are cosy, comfortable and clean. The linen so soft. The staff warm, friendly and helpful. BUT the food is delicious, beautifully presented and good value. No downsides I can find. Fully recommend, would love to come back. Visualizza piatti

last Saturday evening we held an dinner for 13 people to celebrate my 70th birthday. it was a really wonderful evening and I cannot praise the staff enough. eating was all delicious, especially the sea roast and pavlowa and there was a good choice of vegetarian options. the service was efficient and friendly and there was no rush for us to leave at the end of the evening. the cost was also very reasonable. many thanks to lifton hall for such a fantastic and unforgettable birthday dinner

Went with husband for a meal and was bowled over. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. My husband had the ham and potato soup and is sure it is the best soup he has ever tasted. I had katsu curry which was homemade and...delicious, my husband had sea bream which was well cooked. For desert my husband had a fabulous cheese board and i had the most glorious homemade pavlova with chewy meringue. We will be going back again as we were so impressed. It will be worth the 1.5hr drive each way from home. Visualizza piatti

Me and my partner booked a table and when we arrived we were a little early, but were seated in the bar/pub area and it was stunning exactly how a village pub/hotel should be. The staff were very welcoming and our server Deanne was...especially lovely! Our food arrived in good time and it not only looked amazing, it tasted amazing too. It was the first time me and my partner had venison and we could not fault it, my burger was one of the best I’ve had and my partners steak was mouth watering!!! What a beautiful hotel/restaurant, stunning on the outside and inside with amazing food and service, will be coming back again as soon as possible!

Thoroughly Disappointing. Having booked over a month earlier for 7.30pm mid-week, we arrived just before time and were shown to our table. Our drinks order was taken and delivered quickly, but we waited ages for the waitress to take our food order. To our shock,...we were advised that everything we asked for on the menu was no longer available. Looks like they first cater for the large rowdy parties of 15 people or more before they cater for the smaller number of guests sitting at tables. We decided to call it a day when the noise from the large rowdy party was so loud we could no longer hold a conversation. Guests from other tabes started to share looks across the room of dissatisfaction. O...

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
