"Not having been since the previous owners had it I wasn’t sure what I would find. The man with the colourful shirt had great personality , welcoming, thoughtful providing crayons/colouring for the children without being asked) we had the Freckles! Chilli chicken , amazing scotch eggs for starters followed by chicken roast, tender chicken amazing roast potatoes , tasty bouncy Yorkshire puds great veg, one of us had lamb again perfectly cooked. We forced down desserts and managed after champagne and sav blanc to get out the door! Great place with friendly staff fab food we will be back soon! "On arrival the garden and grounds and view were superb. We found a nice table and all was very clean, the waitress friendly and efficient. Sadly it was not a carvery but a plated meal. When it arrived I was sad to see that the plate was overloaded. Gammon slice, (bit fatty 6 roast potatoes (which could have been a little more crisp. cauliflower, carrots,parsnips, brocholli, pop up Yorkshire pudding. stuffing (a bit tasteless, and gravy. A massive meal which would have done me for two days. It looked good value but sadly I could only find room for half the amount. Sticky toffee pudding with custard was superb. and a good coffee to follow. I feel this pub has missed a trick. Most of the people lunching were 70 plus and would have preferred to have a carvery where they could just take as much as the wanted and not been over faced by such a plateful I shall go again but try their a la carte menue, ot specials if they have them"

"I would have promised my friend a afternoon for her 70th birthday, but we had a limited window on Thursday afternoon after 13 o'clock. we discovered that every caffeine in the neighbourhood has stopped serving to serve 15 o'clock and were about to give up despair when I remembered silver st. I was not optimistic about our chances, but the kitchen on silver st could not have been more helpful. we have a brilliant afternoon tea, served in fine porcellan, with a lace cloth, very generous amount of smoked salmon, sink and gurken sandwiches, choice of two types of cake from the many available plus excellent scenes, jam and cream and a large pot of good hot tee. we have pushed out the boot and added a glass prosecco, but it was still less than £20 per person. a couple of years ago I took someone to the afternoon tee in the scribble and I can honestly say that it was not as good as this (and it was much more expensive). the service was also great. the caffe is open daytime and some evenings, offers a good selection of food and beautiful cake and is licensed. it is worth visiting whether a special occasion or just a coffee in the city. I'm going back to the finals."

"We first called into the George in October this year for lunch on the way to a family holiday on the south coast. The welcome we got on that occasion was so memorable and the food so good that we thought we would try and book a Christmas meal. What a fantastic choice we made. Helen and the team went overboard to accommodate us, from the minute we walked through the door we felt so welcome. The meal itself was fantastic. We cannot comment negatively about anything except the brussels sprouts but then its a standard Christmas joke. In reality the sprouts were great. The locals were friendly and we had a good banter after our meal. My wife commented dont tell my mum but that is probably the best christmas dinner ive ever had and the roasties were to die for The ambience of the George is perfect, music you can hear if you hear a special song but not so loud that you have to raise your voice to hold a conversation. Accomodation is spacious and comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. I must also mention the breakfast. Again, up there with the best we 've had. It takes a special team to make a pub special and the George has got that one spot on. We look forward to visiting again soon Jim Deb"

"This is a shining gem of cuisine nestled in picturesque Ilminster.The chef is very personable and knowledgeable, with a great enthusiasm for sharing the origins and decisions behind the menu and ensuring that you enjoy the dining experience.The dining area is cosy and has a lovely view onto the open area just outside. It's clear that care and attention has gone into every aspect of the experience, and they do read your dietary requirements from the online booking form (sadly a rarity in some places).The cheeseboard is highly recommended don’t miss out!If you're driving, it can be hard to decide where to park there is nearby on street parking, but I recommend the car park on Orchard Vale, with a nice walk up by the church."
