"I turn 50 soon and decided there would be no better way to celebrate it than at the Red Lion with 8 close friends (4 couples). The team there were great about sorting out reservations in the Troutbeck and the rooms were a real hit...with our friends, none of whom had ever stayed there before. They are total luxury and beautifully decorated. When this was all arranged we were offered the private dining room upstairs, which we had never seen, and as the first person in the wow factor was massive! It's just the most beautiful setting and I could not wished for anything better. After being seated we were introduced to Vicky who looked after us all night with real care and nothing was too much for her. before longs lots of cocktails arrived, which were delicious and the With Thunderous Applause' toffee apple cocktail was a real hit. What to say about the food???? AMAZING! Each dish that arrived looked amazing, tasted fantastic and everyone was so, so happy with their choices. i had the smoked haddock scotch egg then the venison and was so happy with my choices. The chateaubriand looked amazing and the chips are the best ever. We all had desserts and the panna cotta, passion fruit tart, cheese and creme brulee were just the best way to finish. After a bit of port, sake, scotch or whatever to finish we left full, happy and having had the most amazing time. It's an evening I'll never forget, thank you everyone and, as ever, the breakfasts the next morning really hit the spot!"

We loved our first trip here, the accommodation was spacious , pleasant and had a delightful view. The food was tasty, well presented and not too fussy. Service was really friendly. Lovely to eat such good food in an informal setting

We recently stayed in the lovely Anglesea Room at Troutbeck Guesthouse for two nights and had wonderful meals at The Red Lion. The breakfasts and dinners were perfectly prepared, showcasing the dedicated and talented team working behind the scenes to ensure every detail of the dining experience was enjoyable. We wish them success with their unique vision.

My friends and I had a fantastic dining experience at this restaurant. I enjoyed a three-course meal, each paired with a different wine. All the dishes were delicious and the wine pairings were excellent. The waitress was very kind and welcoming. We had to reschedule our visit four times and were grateful for their understanding. We will definitely be returning in the future. Visualizza piatti

Me and my partner went for a Christmas meal out from his company and we had the December tasting menu, it was beautiful! The feel of the place is warm and welcoming, the staff were attentive but not over bearing, like in some places, it’s...a beautiful village pub with a twist! Swindon doesn’t have many (if any) nice /up market places to dine so after a recommendation we decided to try here and we were not disappointed. Definitely be back again. Thank you!

We returned to the restaurant for another visit, enjoying two sunny days on the riverfront terrace with activities on the Avon River and sheep grazing in the meadows nearby. The menu featured a delicious wild garlic soup and risotto. We also appreciated the addition of wine pairings to the a la carte menu. We have already booked another visit and will be sure to try the breakfast options with added tips. The service was excellent, making our experience even more enjoyable.

only returned from a two-day foodie break in this precious stone of a facility. eating is exceptional; we had the tasting menu on day 1 and went a la carte day two. both meals were unforgettable. chef connor, including a few really thoughtful extras, and the caring and friendly service of his partner vicky made it sure that we back. troutbeck, where the rooms are, is warm and cozy and if they want their own swans and escape swimming along the river avon just at the end of the garden outside, well what they want! martin performs the operation so well that they don't want anything. can not recommend the place very enough! With great respect to the general quality of other local/Wiltshire (gastro)pubs, The Red Lion is at a level above. Great hidden country pub' ambience, with evident talent for cocktails, the inventiveness of the menu is matched by genial, professional service and always thrilling food. Whether...familiar (chicken liver pat or innovative (ceviche of scallops with blood orange, chilli, basil, hazelniut and citrus dressing) the food and preparation is of the highest quality. Attractive plates arrive with efficient unobtrusiveness. A triumph of execution over pretention with many treasures in the extensive wine list. (Probably quite a nice pub too

We seem to visit the Red Lion whenever there is a special occasion, even if that occasion is just that it's the weekend, as the food and atmosphere is so fabulous. The restaurant has a fabulous wine list, although somehow it always seems that our...first choice red is not available. Make sure you don't overdo it on their great bread and butter as the starters are always delicious. To start with, as I often do, I ordered the chicken liver paté delicious and so generous that I always end up ordering more brioche for the paté. Other starters which were ordered were the fish scotch egg and the risotto, which were both fantastic, if the risotto were a little on the small side. We rarely need to l...

"We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience."
