"I’ve asked my self why I haven’t found this place before. I’ll try to give my best to describe this experience. I wanted to invite my brother for his 30 birthday and I found that Zipang had amazing reviews and it was 10 minute walking from our place. My friends who have lived in Hamburg and around Eimsbüttel (the neighborhood) for years had not heard from it. I was skeptical and it ended up surprising me and my brother in a way that we could have never imagined. We tried many things from the menu (it isn’t that long tho) and EVERYTHING we order was remarkable. The staff delivers an excellent service and they also take care of every single plate that we were astonished. I would definitely recommend this place for an special celebration or a fine dinning our experience. The only downside that I would say is that most of the plates are based on an animal protein, I don’t know if a vegetarian or vegan would find good options. Despite it 3 Michelin recognitions I believe Zipang place is a hidden gem in Hamburg. Please keep in mind that there is another restaurant with a similar name that offers ramen. This ramen does not have ramen in its menu. However, that is not an excuse to avoid experiencing it."

This was highly approciated by Japanese and thus we found our self in this place. Excellent food with mix of traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. Some small surprises made it an excellent evening. Good and friendly service. Visualizza piatti

We went there for lunch. I ordered special lunch menu, which was salmon and rice. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. The portion was not so big, just enough to fill up. The green tea ice cream was very tasty. The service was great. I would definitely come back again.

Japanese restaurant influence heavily by French style. Bit towards expensive side. Food is good, Chef is very honest in what he is doing. Not authentic Japanese though. Restaurant is small and interior is not inspiring. I love authentic Japanese food, but still I do not have any complaint on food here. You will enjoy it.

Fantastic take-out food. We tried the Haru box for two €58) and were not disappointed. Beautifully presented and all dishes were very tasty. After lockdown we will be back for an in-restaurant meal and we are sure it will be five stars then as having the food served on the table must be spectacular. In the meantime we will order take-out again! Visualizza piatti

For the Japanese traveler attending the many trade fairs in Germany and eating European food the Zipang restaurant comes as a welcome relief and he can feast himself on the many wonders presented in this tiny restaurant. The sashimi, sushi and miso soup vie for attention with tofu and bento. The restaurant offers a host of choices, the specialty being a 6 course menu that gives a taste of a large number of dishes. The fried sushi with a thin crust is the icing on the cake. Couple the food with drinks including a choice of three varieties of sake. The place changes its menu every day. The place also combines the traditional Japanese with Iberian and Wagyu dishes. For dessert enjoy the delecta...

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
