Taverne du Château de Chillon

Located in front of the beautiful castle du Chillon it offers the possibility of a decent lunch. Pizza is ok and children menu is affordable. Nice friendly service.

Essentially ignored after being seated for lunch. It appeared this restaurant caters to large Asian groups and ignores other travelers. Moved on to find a better restaurant.

For anyone visiting the castle this place is in the perfect location. However, the service is horrible, the menu was limited and the quality of food is very average. It is quite a shame because in that location it should really be making a killing.

We were the only patrons on a Monday afternoon in December. Selection and food was adequate. There were several kid-friendly choices for our daughters to choose from. Overpriced as most Swiss restaurants are. Nothing memorable about our visit here.

Food was average, restaurant is very spacious but was almost empty when we visited. The staff was from China and was difficult to communicate with in French or English. Menu is a mix of Swiss food and pizza. They do have a good kids menu. By far not the best eating experience I have had in Switzerland.

Sorry to see so many poor reviews for this place. We found it quite satisfying. Cheaper than most eateries in Montreux, I had a very nicely cooked piece of steak with fries and a salad. My partner had fish and chips. Good sized portions, pleasant servers, related atmosphere (though the road can be very noisy) the decor is not so nice (plastic seats and looks a bit dated) but overall I was happily surprised and I would certainly go back.

We toured the Chateau and decided to stop into the Taverne as it was just across the street. The menu looked pricey but this is Switzerland so everything is costly. The menu of the day was the exception: 18 francs. It consisted of soup, asparagus risotto bread and a salad. It was a lot of food but good. Service was very friendly and attentive. The server was able to help us with a wine selection. I noticed a previous post saying the staff was Chinese and hard to understand. I didn't think so (it was an Asian staff) and I found the service to be good. If you don't have lots of time then I would recommend Taverne.

Location is obviously beneficial being opposite the Chateau de Chillon.The overall presentation of the restaurant isn't great, with outdated decor and facilities - the hand dryer outside of the toilet is completely useless! For a table of eight, only one place-setting had the right cutlery; leaving out knives and/or forks. Food-wise, bread for the table had a 'chemically' after taste, portion sizes were too small, fish was overcooked, fish fingers for my son were very oily. They put way too much fig and red berry sauce on my daughter's duck; it covered nearly the whole plate . It's definitely over priced for what you get.
