"We made a reservation through Groupon for Sunday lunch for four at this hotel, even though we are local residents and had never been there before. The hotel has a 4-star rating, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to try something new. However, we were disappointed with our experience. The dining room did not meet our expectations - the tables did not have tablecloths as shown in the website photos, and some had linen napkins while others had cheap paper napkins. Despite booking in advance and mentioning it was my daughter's 12th birthday, no table had been prepared for us. The menu was just an A4 paper, which is not what we would expect from a 4-star establishment. There was no drinks menu available, so we had to make do with what was offered. The food was mediocre at best - my husband's beer was described as stale, my pate was served with poor quality bread and not enough onion jam, and the prawn cocktail was average. The roast dinners were also disappointing, with poorly cooked potatoes and frozen vegetables. Dessert options were limited, and the lemon tart we chose was unremarkable. The lack of tea or coffee offered was also disappointing. Overall, the service and quality of the food need improvement before we would consider returning. It is a shame to leave such a negative review, but the owners should take note and make necessary changes to attract more customers. Additionally, having a consistent standard across all tables, providing better quality ingredients, and improving service would eliminate the need to rely on Groupon for business. The potential is there for this hotel to be a great dining destination, but changes need to be made."

Couldn't fault the two evening meals breakfast that we had. Particularly enjoyed were the goats' cheese and beetroot starter, the spare ribs and the duck. No complaints about the shared dessert either.

Breakfast was very good. It is self service and had the usual full English. I had at least one meal here while staying at the hotel. The food was very good, I had steak, but it was very expensive. The service was very good.

Visited with colleagues . Staff friendly and helpful . Had to send beer back as was cloudy with odd taste but waiter sorted this without fuss. Food was very good and tasty however definite improvements that could be made all handles on all doors were filthy, windows filthy inside and out , table we were sat at outside filthy. If what you can see is dirty what’s the kitchen like?!

My wife and I decided to try the Champagne Afternoon Tea at this restaurant. The staff at the reception were welcoming and assisted us to our table. However, the rest of the experience was disappointing. Tea was served without asking for our preference and the sandwiches were served cold and covered in clingfilm, which we had to unwrap ourselves. There was no explanation of what we were served, although it would have been nice to know. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. Visualizza piatti

My friend and I booked an afternoon tea at this well established lodge in Kingston. The tea was not cheap, but we were happy to go because of the pleasant and old fashioned atmosphere. However, apart from the little sandwiches, the scones had been microwaved and hard, the brownies were dry as dust and the meringues just store bought and not fresh. I wrote to the catering manager saying how disappointing the afternoon had been. I received no reply. I then wrote to the manager of the lodge, again explaining what had happened. Still no reply. I wasn’t looking for a freebie, but just wanted an apology or explanation to show it was a one off. But the fact that there was no reply at all shows that...

I was amazed at the positive ratings for afternoon tea at this Hotel. The staff were courteous until we had reason to complain. The selection of sandwiches were not the best, the bread tasted as if it had been sitting around awhile, not very fresh. The tea we were given was ok but unlike other hotels there was no choice of variety offered.. we could cope with that ! The cake selection was okish. The main complaint we had was the place was filthy, we sat by a window in a large room on our own, the windows, window ledge and window sill were filthy dirty with dirt and dust. Rain came through a leak in the roof and we had to prove this to the duty Manager, why would we lie if one us was getting w...

We had the most fantastic day here celebrating our sons wedding. Initially I had reservations about the hotel venue, the price seemed to be to good to be true. I was sure that we would have to compromise on something somewhere I couldn’t have been more wrong. Before the wedding, communication was excellent and questions answered thoroughly. We wanted a couple of extra bits done for the bride and groom and the hotel accommodated all our requests. The staff were exceptional, really exceptional. They could not have done anymore to make everyone feel welcome (Kate and Andrea were especially brilliant) water jugs and drinks were replenished. Every detail looked after. Everyone that I spoke to sai... Visualizza piatti

I was expecting an excellent experience based on previous reviews but I’m afraid we will not return. Firstly my colleague’s cup was dirty. When we were ordering the waiter couldn’t remember what types of tea were available and had to get the box of sachets to show us. When the food arrived I just couldn’t believe it. The jam was not individual pots but rather was plopped into a stainless steel gravy boat, as was the clotted cream which was served like ice cream balls in an identical gravy boat. The scones were dry as dust (may have been frozen, certainly didn’t taste fresh). The sandwiches were made with thick cut bread and the cucumber ones with the white bread were clearly made with the en...

I frequently visit Kingston Lodge with my daughter to enjoy tea or coffee in the bar area. I have always found it to be lovely, so when my partner's birthday came around, we decided to have a family meal there to celebrate. Upon arrival, I inquired about dining in the restaurant even though we were not staying at the hotel. Unfortunately, we were informed that there was an event taking place, so we could only eat in the lounge area. As we were enjoying our meal, a staff member approached us and insisted that we pay immediately. I was taken aback and questioned why, to which they explained that because we were not hotel guests, payment was required at that moment. Despite expressing our desir...

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
