"There was 6 of us that went for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful pub in a beautiful village. The food was very good with very generous portions. We had one complaint and in after thought we should have mentioned it to management. We were seated at a table that was very close to the bar which I would not recommend as people coming and going for drinks were right on top of us. The most disgusting thing that happened was 2 woman came in with 3 dogs one of the dogs was being held under her arm with its butt stuck directly next to my face while I was eating, the dog smelt very bad and all six of us noticed it. I am a dog lover but dogs should only be allowed in snug areas not in the restaurant where people are eating. So when booking a table at this pub please ask not to be seated next to the bar. "Had lunch here with parents and was very disappointed. It has really gone down hill. The whole place looks rundown and shabby and dirty. A refurbishment would give it a new lease of life. The ladies toilets were grotty, dirty grouting around sink and dirt on floor and unpleasant smell. The welcome was non existent by the manager or barman behind the bar. Could barely be bothered to speak. I said we had come here for my father in laws 91st birthday and he just didn’t respond. The table was old and worn and sticky and chairs very old and worn out. Could do with updating the furniture. There were cobwebs and dust on the dried out faded hops on the ceiling. The menu was a bit uninspiring but ok. My mum was disappointed by the garlic chicken Kiev. no garlic butter inside just in a jug and the green beans were very hard and inedible. I had the turkey which was ok but a mean portion of vegetable for two people so had to ask for another portion. The meat in the steak and kidney pie was also chewy and tough. My parents had a dessert. The crumble was lovely and hot and came with custard but the crème brûlée cheesecake was a mean portion considering it was £7. I think the desserts were over priced. We gave the waitress a tip as she was very good and cheerful and friendly but when we left we walked right past the manager and he didn’t even say thank you or goodbye. Such a shame as nice location and nice building. We will not be returning."

"I initially loved this place, but after years of being a customer, the owner refused to honor a voucher given to me as a wedding present before the national lockdown. When I tried to discuss this, the owner responded with unprofessional, sarcastic, and antagonistic language. While I understand that 2020 has been difficult for the hospitality industry, it has also been tough for consumers. By not honoring the voucher, they have lost my business and potential future income from me. The owner challenged me for not using the voucher during their takeaway service in lockdown, not realizing that I was trying to minimize unnecessary contact due to caring for vulnerable individuals. I have always had great experiences at The Giant's Rest, whether it be Christmas Day dinner, family gatherings, or relaxing Sunday afternoons after a walk with my dog. However, I am extremely disappointed in the owner's behavior today and will not be returning or recommending this place in the future."

"Appalling service, waited over an hour for food only came when complained. Drinks had already taken 20minutes and only 4 of us. They weren’t remotely attentive no waiting staff around, no food coming out and didn’t take our drinks order for a while other people complained. When I first arrived I asked if the vegan nachos was vegan mince or 3 bean. Told the latter, later when ordered told didn’t have it, so I said please double check as the chef had confirmed before they did and it was bean then came back and they did have it. After waiting over an hour I had to go up and ask how long as my 86 year old grandmother was pretty hungry. When it came out my vegan nachos had cow cheese on it. I said to the waitress are you sure this is vegan and she confirmed it was. I tentatively took a bite and immediately knew from the texture and reaction I get from lactose it was had to take it back. They replaced it with a new one but by then my party had eaten. Additional to this food was mediocre and table in front complained chicken was still pink table behind cancelled their order and left as they too had been waiting so long. What’s worse is google said they were quieter than usual and the staff certainly weren’t rushing about so just terrible staff, both serving, kitchen and I managerial. Never again!"

"Fabulous pub...old school no gastro thrills just a good old decent pub serving great beers and food. Staff very welcoming and ambience great. We'll done all staff and management please do not change a thing ! A breath of fresh air...non of that table's booked or have you booked on the app ! Or kitchen now closed like most other so called gastro pubs in the area ! One day you gastro pubs will be begging the customer back on.your knees ...Trust me !"
