"I only stopped by here for a quick drink so I am really only commenting on the pub and the service in this review although I plan to come back to eat and possibly stay while walking the South Downs Way. I had been out in Alfriston for the day with the new boy and after a visit to the local gallery and a glorious walk through the Sussex countryside, we popped in her for a quick glass of red before heading home. The pub, like everything in the picturesque village of Alfriston, is old (14th century) and quaint. Think open fires, low wooded beams and lots of character. Wanting to make the most of the early spring sunshine we sat in the garden which is also beautiful. The service was reasonably friendly if a little brisk and the wine was decidedly average, but the surrounding more than made up for this. We bumped into friends that were having the Sunday roast and they also commented that they had waited a long time for the food and there was nothing special about it, I would like to try this for myself though before making a judgment, maybe something from the al la carte menu which look pretty tasty. I will be back and will happily update my review when I can judge the food for myself!"

Popped in for a pint and lunch and found a menu with plant options. Shared the veg platter. Was excellent. Would have liked to try some of the other options.

This is such an amazing old pub. The vibe is so warm and relaxed, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the lamb shank it has to be the best I've ever had. You must visit this pub if you're in the area.

I love the George Inn. Very friendly welcome, food is sublime. They've been in the Michellin Good Pub guide 2007 2012. Current landlords have been there for about 12years. Food is excellent really excellent! Its a typical quaint village pub but the food is another level! Visualizza piatti

Having enjoyed another lovely visit to The Cathedral of The Downs, then this is the place to get a pint and a good lunch. No, a superb lunch. You should try the Mustard Baked ham, egg and chips! Well looked after ales will more than slake your thirst, if you're not driving). Lovely area to stroll around.

Greene King pub with just their usual average uninspiring ales and no guests. We were here for the food and I was very impressed not only with the ample portions and the presentation. The service was first rate as well. I also thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the mock lounge after the meal with a late snifter.

We weren’t hopeful of many vegan options when we parked the camper in the nearby campsite, but we were surprised to discover the very accommodating George Inn! The veggie and vegan options are clearly marked on the menu and we enjoyed the delicious locally-made bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, plus a delicious lentil and vegetable cottage pie (topped with sweet potato mash and with optional cheese for non-vegans). Lovely food, beautiful surroundings, elegant understated table settings. The staff are lovely people, but the service was appalling. We had to ask twice for bread and for the time it arrived with all finished of this course after we finished our main course we sat there with dirty plates in front of us for sometime. We eventually asked somebody to clear them away who then stacked the dirty plates on the table in front of us. Some basic training in foodservice would be good. We then sat there for a rather long time waiting for the desert menus which we had to ask for in the end, we just had coffee Which we took in the lounge area so that we could sit in front of the fire as by then the room w...

A beautifully decorated pub/restaurant and hotel. Guest car park at the back is a great bonus just buzz for entry. The lady who greeted us, showed us to the table and took our coats delightful. Restaurant wasn’t busy at all. We ordered drinks main course Sunday lunch roast beef was perfect served with veg , a small Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes on the plate gravy and horseradish on a separately. We finished main course and male waiter took the empty plates away. We probably waited 20 mins and then asked for dessert menus. We ordered desserts and coffee/ again lovely but once again we had to ask for the bill and there was only one waiter who was setting up tables. Bill came, reasonably...

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"
