Also the pub does bell tent glamping in their lower garden during the warmer months that you can book out. Nearby activities: Drucillas is 5 minutes drive away and also have Arlington reservoir a stones throw away a lovely walk around there then down to the pub. Walkability: Easily accessible via train or by foot from main routes and the local bus company Food drinks: Large hearty portions of pub classics plus they have daily specials running that range in different cuisine from Japanese to Spanish always something different Noteworthy details: Can hire bell tents during the warmer months Have many functions on like octoberfest and opera night plus bank holiday festivals in summer Hotel highlights: Great view, Romantic, Quiet, Kid-friendly, Great value"

"I initially loved this place, but after years of being a customer, the owner refused to honor a voucher given to me as a wedding present before the national lockdown. When I tried to discuss this, the owner responded with unprofessional, sarcastic, and antagonistic language. While I understand that 2020 has been difficult for the hospitality industry, it has also been tough for consumers. By not honoring the voucher, they have lost my business and potential future income from me. The owner challenged me for not using the voucher during their takeaway service in lockdown, not realizing that I was trying to minimize unnecessary contact due to caring for vulnerable individuals. I have always had great experiences at The Giant's Rest, whether it be Christmas Day dinner, family gatherings, or relaxing Sunday afternoons after a walk with my dog. However, I am extremely disappointed in the owner's behavior today and will not be returning or recommending this place in the future."

"On June 5, 2022, we visited The Eight for the first time and ended up returning three more times. It truly exemplifies what a pub should be—friendly staff, a welcoming atmosphere, and delicious pub food. The menu is small, which is a good sign of locally sourced ingredients, and the chef skillfully prepares everything to perfection. He even accommodated a special dietary request from someone in our group by creating a dish that wasn't on the menu. It was clear that ensuring we had a great meal and a pleasant experience was a top priority for them, a quality that is often lacking in other pubs and restaurants. They even had tasty treats for our new puppy, so our dog enjoyed the outing as well! Overall, a fantastic example of what a dining experience should be. We will definitely be back. Thank you!"

"This was our first visit since moving back to Eastbourne, after being regular diners for several years, having previously enjoyed dinners, Sunday buffets and Christmas Day lunch. On Thursday evening we booked for 6:30pm and were served our starters at 7:10pm and our main course at 7:40pm. If each meal were being cooked individually and from basic ingredients this would be acceptable. There were few occupied tables when we arrived, although the restaurant did fill up later in the evening. The food itself was very enjoyable but we had not expected it to come plated, as it might have been, had it been part of a feast night meal. We like to share our dishes so it was awkward to take food from each other’s plates. We needed to order extra rice as each curry came served on a plate with a small pot of rice. The take away delivery service appeared busy so presumably those meals have to be prepared alongside restaurant orders, hence the long wait. We would have preferred our main dishes, chosen from the à la carte menu, to have been served in separate dishes, so we could share our dining experience. Also when the order is taken, we could be asked if we wish to wait in between courses, in our case we waited 30 minutes, but not from choice."
