Wow six of us just returned from a lovely two night stay at the Mitre Andy his lovely wife and all the staff are amazing nothing is too much trouble the ales the food is really good we have stayed before and will definitely be back thanks Andy and all for a brill time . A group of ten visited The Mitre last night for our monthly get-together. We were impressed by the staff, the food and the ambience. The beer was good and the well priced wines were seemingly sourced from a justifiably respected local wine-merchant. Four star rating is perhaps a tad generous, but certainly a long way ahead of average, so 3 stars would have been unreasonably ungenerous.

We (family of 4) had our 2 week summer holiday in Devon staying close by to Witheridge. The hospitality of the landlord, Andy and the staff were all so welcoming and the quality of the food excellent. So good in fact we ate at The Mitre four times during our stay including an excellent Sunday lunch. Great range of ales, lagers, wines and cocktails too. Great to sit outside the pub on a summers evening.

Visited here last night to be told it would be at least an hour before we could have a table. My wife and I were publicans for many years and NEVER EVER turned custom away. How times have changed. Not long ago the hospitality industry were crying out to be helped by the government. Perhaps they have had too much help if they can afford to turn a disabled couple in their 70s away. Yes, we are disabled and struggled in despite there being no disabled access. Sorry Mr Landlord we WILL NOT BE BACK

During the end of our journey on The Two Moors Way walk, my dog Bodhi and I stayed at this restaurant. Barbara went above and beyond to accommodate my gluten-free and vegan dietary needs, and the food she provided was some of the best gluten-free vegan cuisine I've ever tasted. Andy was a delightful conversationalist at the bar and made us feel right at home. The room was comfortable, with blackout curtains that ensured a restful night's sleep. They even provided a treat for Bodhi and made sure we were well taken care of. Overall, it was a fantastic stay!

We were staying in Witheridge and ventured into the Mitre Inn on a couple of nights with the dog. The welcome was very friendly and our Cockapoo was spoilt with attention and treats. The ale selection was good served in traditional glasses with a handle and it had a lovely friendly atmosphere. We read in our hosts Guest book that many guests have raved about their Sunday lunches but sadly we read this later in the week! The food certainly looked good. All in all great country local, and I said to my wife it’s a shame we don’t live here! Thumbs up from Bella and us

We have been frequent visitors to this restaurant and have always enjoyed the food, but our last visit was very disappointing. We ordered the Beef Vindaloo, which we were warned would be hot (a warning we didn't find necessary). Unfortunately, the dish was extremely dry, making the rice and curry almost inedible. There was no heat or spice at all. We questioned if there has been a change in chefs. Additionally, the ice-cream was not fresh and tasted like it had been thawed and refrozen multiple times. This meal was supposed to be a special Christmas outing with our family.

we were so happy to see so many vegan options and so many who were gluten-free! but to begin, there were no vegan starters. when the Allni party with whom we had dined had received her, it was an hour, and we have received our first two hours after our order. what came out was the spag bol for my man and the bbq linsenburger with vegan cheese for me. both courts were good, but a bit boring, except the dripping in salat. that loved it, although it did not save the burger who was cold and was somewhat dissatisfied. kudos on the server, which was beautiful and knowledgeable about vegan and gluten-free food.

we loved it so much choice on the separate vegan menu! it was hard to choose, but we went with the bbq lentil burger with chips and the bohnen chili with rice and one side garlauchbrot. we all enjoyed eating! we shared the half of the courts. the personal was friendly and informative. they were happy to check with the cook. the bar is dog and family friendly. we had waited for about 20 or 30 minutes to eat, which made us nothing at all. actually we enjoyed our visit so much that we have reserved a table for Thursdays Curry Night when all veggie curries are vegan! we look forward to our return visit. we recommend a visit if they are in the opposite.
