"My wife and I were on a pilgrimage to Thornby to visit the village where my mother's mother's family lived in the first half of the nineteenth century. The pub and the church were the two musts for the visit. The Red Lion was really...friendly, with great service and the food was way better than I would have expected from a small village pub. My wife raved about her parsnip and apple soup excellent preparation, presentation and taste. I had no more than a simple burger but that was well presented with really tasty homemade coleslaw. All good value for money. Proud to have traced my roots back to Thornby and to have been made to feel welcome."

Hard to. Eli eve they won an award, food not that great, had fish and chips. The chips were frozen chips and the fish was over cooked. Very expensive too.

Visited on a recommendation and was not disappointed. Sunday Roast Lamb and Beef served with delicious, elevated, veg and roasties with sublime Yorkshire puddings. Nothing was too much trouble and happy to adapt the menu for a fussy toddler. Great service and a warm welcome...In this family friendly pub. Will be back.

We enjoyed a fantastic meal at this restaurant, which has a relaxed and friendly yet professional atmosphere. The food is top-notch, with a creative menu featuring delicious dishes made with local ingredients that are cooked and presented beautifully. Despite not being a fancy gastropub, it still has a charming village pub feel. Highly recommended. Visualizza piatti

We came off the A14 after Google maps recommended it. It's a great little find. Not at all pub grub. We arrived at 2 minutes to 2pm and good finished at 2. They accepted is. We ordered two Bouillabaisse and it was excellent. The Rouille...was delicious and authentic, fish perfectly cooking and had samphire, mussels etc in a lovely broth. Really well prepared and presented and the service was friendly and efficient. Excellent

we have passed on the red lions in thornby after we explore northamptonshire with the car! the food was excellent. my partner had the steak, ale and stylton cake with hand cut chips and seasonal green veg! it was the best cake we both ever tasted and the filling was so well fed! I had the chicken carving with Romanesco sauce. another fantastic dish! to dessert, we both had the Bannoffee-Terte that was from this world! we will definitely come back! beautiful atmosphere also in the pub.

"I had been reading a lot on Facebook about the pub and the quality of the food on offer. So when my partner suggested an impromptu Sunday lunch I suggested The White Horse. I called to check they would still be serving as time was getting on. I booked a table for 3.30pm. We arrived and were met by very friendly staff who got us drinks and showed us to our table. I had intended to try the new Trio of meats sharing board which had been publicised on Facebook, however it transpires that it had “blown up” and sold out in hours. Also, they were out of beef and Yorkshire puddings. Could have been disappointing but we are both realistic people and understand we had booked last minute and late in the day, the weather was also fantastic so a lot of folks were out and about. The waitress offered us steak in place of beef. When we had asked about the sharing board she asked the kitchen what they could do and they were able to offer some pork belly, which my partner had, I took the steak. We shared bread and olives to start, with some halloumi fries. My partner says they were the best she had ever had. Both dishes were delicious. The main courses were equally delicious. I particularly enjoyed the red cabbage and cauliflower, the pork was moist and sweet, the steak tender. We very much enjoyed our experience and will be back very soon, though we will plan better, book earlier and will give a review on the Trio of meats sharing board very soon. Looking forward to it already. Highly recommended."
