"Disappointed we walked for miles with our dog on Friday August and was looking forward to finish off with a lunch for two at the tea room However the weather closed in and it started to rain on arrival to which we asked if we...could have lunch inside and was told by a member of staff abruptly No dogs allowed inside There was no signage indicating this and the inside was not busy so why such a harsh stance when our dog is well behaved. As the outside patio has no cover area to shelter from the rain not even table parasol we decided not to get wet and departed. What a real shame this establishment does not allow dogs inside when we could see other people happily walking in with muddy boots. If only a sign or note on the website advise that dogs are not welcome inside would help Other local businesses are happy to welcome dogs to which we found later in the day.We will not return"

Staff were very nice nothing to much trouble, the owner is a different story, would not recommend visiting here! Especially with children! Definitely not a nice owner!!

... and we had an excellent lunch in it, overlooking a broad panorama. This place has been a favourite of ours for many years. We are glad to see it has survived the lockdowns.

After a long walk around the Roaches, we stopped by for an ice cream and a cold drink. We were pleasantly surprised to find that they also offered a nice selection of cold beers, and the view from the restaurant was lovely. It was the perfect way to end a hot day.

This restaurant was a fantastic discovery - the food was delicious and handcrafted, the tea was flavorful, and the location was stunning. It's the perfect spot for a meal after climbing Hen Cloud. There was convenient parking available as well. I absolutely loved it.

My husband and I both enjoyed lattes and farmhouse breakfasts while visiting, eager to try the Staffordshire oatcakes. The meal was delightful and gave us the perfect fuel for our long hike around The Roaches. The views were stunning and the price was very reasonable.

We stopped for a hot drink before going up The Roaches and seeing the specials lunch board decided to come back. Food was nicely presented and good quality, ours ranged from grilled haloumi, omelette and tuna sandwich. Staff helpful and friendly also very patient with...people explaining the parking restriction along the lane! Toilets clean and well looked after.

We had not planned to call in but as we were visiting the Roaches area we decided to drop in for a hot drink. We decided to sit outside to take in the panoramic views of Tittesworth Reservoir and beyond. We were also tempted to...have a late breakfast snack and were not disappointed. Although not on the menu, the staff offered to do mushrooms on toast for me. The food was very reasonably priced and freshly prepared. A pleasant half hour in the fresh air. Will visit again.

For a place set in the middle of walking territory, it seems rather foolish not to allow dogs inside. of us had walked all day in the rain and finally arrived here expecting to be able to sit inside for a much needed cuppa....As we had a small dog with us, we all had to sit outside in the pouring rain. The place is set up for muddy walkers so what difference is a dog going to make? Lots of walkers have dogs with them so I think they are missing a trick here. Nearly all rural, walker friendly cafes allow dogs but not this one.

After finishing a walk what better place to go for a bit to eat and a drink. We were shown to our table and had a drinks menu, I asked the tall member of staff for a food menu. A table of five came in...and then a table of six came in. Still no service or food menu, instead the table od five were asked for their drinks, I tried to get the attention of the tall member of staff and he then went to the table of six for their order, he disappeared and another member of staff came to continue with the order for the table of six. Still no order or food menu. At this point I made it clear that we had been waiting and were now leaving. A shame really because I have been here before and it's a lovely...

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
