"The natural tendency to route for the underdog and try out a small snack bar is usually curbed by the rational mind saying there must be a good reason it is small and empty. If only I had listened to the force of reason! The Udagawa Snack Bar on Kantstrasse - not to be confused with the very good Japanese restaurant of the same name on the Feuerbachstrasse - was not worth the visit. I ordered the tempora moriawase teishoku (16 Euros), teishoku meaning that it is a "meal set" with soup, salad, rice and dessert. Salad and dessert each consisted of a minute tray with 3 pieces of pickled vegetable and fruit, nothing to fault except for the size. The miso soup was acceptable, but not noteworthy. The rice didn't look appetizing and I didn't try it. The main course, the tempora, contained 3 ebi and 4 thin slices of vegetables. The batter was tasteless and the consistence of the ingredients was either over- or undercooked. The dip, really the most important item, was thin like tea and without any redeeming culinary qualities. It was just a waste of time and money and I give my solemn promise never to come back for a return visit."
