"We were in Wincanton visiting with friends and having been to a local pub were disappointed that they did not serve food, walking back to our friend's house we took a risk on the Wincanton Kebab and pizza house. What an unexpected gem! We watched the pizzas being freshly prepared, kebabs being expertly cooked and shish kebabs being carved, we stuck to pizza but have to say that everything else looked good. The pizzas were excellent, full of flavour, we would use them again."

"Now the menu isn’t extensive but the food is delicious. I had the prawn cocktail to start and was the best I have ever had. So much attention to detail, a real feast. My wife had the same and she agreed. We both then had...the roast, Turkey for me and beef for her! Well don’t like to gush but again the detail to the choices of vegetable served was superb. So two starters, two mains and two drinks each I wanted to ask if I could ‘move in’ Thanks to the team and be assured we will be back as soon as this Tier system enables Merry Xmas and Happy New Year"

"I visited this restaurant for the first time while on holiday. Based on the reviews, I had high expectations and I was not disappointed. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a polite and well-dressed gentleman who took our order and spent the next 15 minutes chatting with us while our food was being prepared. He asked us to sit down and even turned on the fan as it was very hot outside. The food was outstanding, the best Indian food we have ever had. The cheese and garlic naan was especially delicious and very cheesy. If anyone knows of a better Indian restaurant or takeout place, please let us know, but it may be a while before we find one as good as this one!"

"I had never been to this restaurant before, but I will definitely be returning. The staff were very efficient and friendly. They had a good selection of beers with clean pipes, as well as a variety of other drink options. The menu had a wide enough selection to please everyone. I enjoyed a tasty pizza (although the base could have been a bit crispier), while my husband had the haddock and chips. He loved every item on his plate – including the mushy peas, tartare sauce, chips, and fish. We both had a rocket and Parmesan side salad, which consisted of a quarter packet of rocket topped with plenty of Parmesan flakes and a delicious dressing. My only complaint was that I ordered two double espressos and they came with petit fours, costing £5 each. We were under the impression that the petits fours were complimentary, so we were surprised when we received the bill. Despite this, we chose not to complain as we had already enjoyed the meal and the extras. Overall, a great dining experience, although receiving the petit fours without the option for just coffee felt a bit cheeky."

"My husband and I went to the halfway on our way home as we thought it was a dog friendly pub. We have 2 dogs, one confident and rarely barks, and the other one who is very nervous, but we have been working with her to build her confidence. Our dog had been doing really well at The Pound in Aller and the Prince Alfred at Burrowbridge, so we wanted to widen her experience. We chose the Halfway House at Langport, as we saw on line, it was dog friendly. Sadly as my dog, although I was using training techniques to try to calm her, when a couple came to sit near us, our nervous dog, was more nervous. The couple were lovely and continued to talk to us while we calmed our dog, understanding she was scared. Sadly the bar staff spoke to us, and said, your dog is barking, people are eating. I could not do more than I was to mange the training, so told the bar person, we would finish our drinks and leave. He said, it wasn’t him, it was everyone else. This was not very helpful. The people we were taking to said they often have evenings when they have lots of dogs and they can become barky and hoped they would see us again. We will not be going back again, some pubs are child friendly and you expect some noise from children, I thought a dog friendly pub would understand some noise from dogs, especially those who the owner is trying to help increase their confidence. We understand the establishment can decide who they want in their business. I thought we were going to be in a pub who understood nervous dogs, but this was not the case. We now understand the owners want to allow dogs, not not nervous dogs. This is a lovely pub, but only wants quiet dogs."

"always a friendly clean cafe. eating is always top notch and cheaper than most pub food. great coffee too. I usually go at least once a week and would recommend everyone. but I am a carnivore and would never order an salate, but by the look of what was served to others, it looks very fresh. free parking on tesco also helps."

"Food was good as always though I couldn't detect any hint of the lemongrass supposed to feature in the (otherwise very tasty) hake dish. Service was a bit slow, but waiters were friendly and apologetic, and explained that they were more than usually over stretched. We did feel more could have been done re Covid proofing though (especially as we were there with my 80 year old mother). Our table location near the front door meant that one member of our party was less than a metre away from every customer entering the pub. Plus there appeared no attempt by the waiter to bring drinks and plates on a tray and we then help ourselves. We have seen these measures in use in other restaurants and they don't take much but they do increase confidence in the seriousness with which Covid prevention is taken. Meanwhile, as the 2nd lockdown looms we wish you all the best for getting through it look forward to returning on the other side..."

"I took my daughter for lunch here recently and was so disappointed with how The Trogh has deteriorated. Prices have increased considerably which in the current market I have no problem with but the portion sizes has dramatically shrunk too! My daughter and I both opted for the ceaser salad which was served with a very undercooked inedible egg, just a tiny sprinkle of finely chopped chicken and limp undercooked bacon. Very few salad leaves which for the price was poor. I asked to speak to the manager or shift leader as my meal was delivered 20 mins before my daughter and grandsons came out. I pointed this out to the shift leader who was nothing less than rude and hostile. She offered no apologies or solutions so eventually I suggested that she may like to refund my daughter’s meal. There were no checks backs on the table when the order was finally complete which is and should be standard. I can forgive poor food as we all have bad days but can’t forgive poor front of house customer service. Hasten to say we won’t be returning unfortunately. On a positive note the burger and fries was thoroughly enjoyed by my grandson."

"Excellent service from our host Sam, my girlfriend and I had a wonderful meal, they were very accommodating for my allergies to milk and shellfish, sam the waiter even came back to our table to check if I was allergic to gluten just in case, safe to say he deserves a raise"

"Unfortunately not a great choice of beers. To eat, we ordered pork souvlaki and lamb chop as main courses 14 each). The pork was supposed to be marinated but came out pretty dry and tasteless. Not a big portion either (2 small-ish skewers). The tzatziki...was watery and hardly tasted of garlic. The salad was mainly limp iceberg lettuce with a watery yogurt dressing on pretty tasteless as well. The chips were good and the pitta was warm. But overall very bland and basic for the prices. The lamb chop was purely fatty and grizzly, there was hardly any proper meat on it. It had a very strong taste and seemed a very cheap cut. Vegetables served with the lamb were OK but again pretty cheap-tasting. Chopped-up, oily aubergine is a bit of an odd choice for a veg side dish, though. Service wasn't brilliant, either, we had to remind them twice to bring the tap water we had asked for with our other drinks. Nobody came and asked if we wanted any sauces (ketchup) or how or meal was, not even at the end when we paid. For those prices, I would have expected a relatively decent meal (not just made up of cheap ingredients) and half-way decent table service. The descriptions of the dishes on the specials board sound great and sophisticated, but unfortunately they don't live up to the hype. I only saw after our visit (on their Facebook page) that they are looking for a new chef. I wish I had known that before. I wouldn't go again, unfortunately. Ah yes, the table surface was sticky, too. No Covid measures in place whatsoever."

"So nice to be able to sit in the garden for lunch didn't fancy carvery so ordered scampi and chips and mushy peas scampi and chips excellent but the mushy peas were stone cold such a shame if we were inside would of returned them no one came out to garden and to be honest couldn't be bothered to walk into bar with them so I left mine friend ate hers cold! Did mention when our plates were cleared"
"Considered as a local (we are about a mile and half away) we decided to walk over to the Rusty Axe in Stembridge. That’s of us adults , kids Kids were exited of we went. We arrived at we had...checked it was open before we set off, was on the web page. On entering we noticed we were the only ones there, family took their seats I went to the bar. I was told that I would have to wait as the till had not come up. Not a problem. We then sat for a further minutes during which the girl I had spoken to earlier returned dressed in a coat and with out a word walked past and departed the pub. We sat for a further few minutes, no one in the bar. We decided to leave a few minutes later and walk back to the Rose and Crown in East Lambrook, where we received a hearty welcome, played board games and had a great post walk pint, crisps and coke with the kids. Very disappointing re the Axe, no welcome, no atmosphere, no service. In all not worth the walk or time on this occasion. There other options in the area, they need to up their game"

"I had lunch here today with my daughter. There was a very welcoming atmosphere. My daughter is vegetarian and lactose intolerant and there were plenty of options for her to choose from. A member of staff, (I didn't catch his name), was very helpful and went through the options with her. The food was excellent and exceeded my expectations. I was hoping to have a piece of cake, as they all looked delicious, but I was too full. I will return soon to try one. I left feeling uplifted. Well worth a visit."

"During our four-night Somerset getaway to visit gardens in the area, we stayed at the Seedhouse Air B&B in Shepton Montague (highly recommended). The Montague Inn became our go-to spot for drinks, dinner, and Sunday Roast. Each time we walked in, we were greeted warmly and received excellent service. My wife was thrilled to find Butcombe IPA Zero on tap (she doesn't drink alcohol but enjoys a good beer), while I indulged in their House Red. The food was consistently excellent with sensible portions, high quality, and reasonable prices. The staff were friendly and attentive, the chef accommodated my dietary needs, and the overall atmosphere was exactly what you'd want in a local pub. We look forward to returning in the Spring and will definitely dine and drink here again. Thank you, Sean and Team!"

"I recently visited Lanes to have Afternoon Tea with a group of friends. This was booked well in advance with one of the party requesting the Gluten Free option. We were very disappointed with what we were served. The scones and sandwiches weren’t great and the gluten free option consisted of 3 finger sandwiches, a cherry bakewell (which didn’t look homemade) and a couple of slices of what looked like chocolate brownie. One of the sandwich selections did not include egg, only cucumber and salmon, which they did rectify. Not once were we offered extra tea/coffee, we had to find a member of staff to ask, even though there was hardly anyone else in the room we were in! But the worst part has to be the shocking response we received when we sent an email with our feedback. He basically accused us of lying and tried to justify himself by saying the other party in there left a large tip!Needless to say none of us will be visiting again!!"

"A very welcoming return visit, to a really good gastro pub. The food is outstanding, the lovage veloute with smoked eel probably the best soup ever tasted, as smooth and rich as could be created. Chicken with a Middle Eastern stuffing and hispi cabbage perfect. The burger as always rich with the flavours of the grill, the triple cooked chips crispy as can be outside soft and smooth inside. The whole finished with a lemon posset topped with granola and strawberries. The menu changes frequently, so what we enjoyed may not be on for your visit, but whatever is will be wonderful. As much as can be sourced locally. What's not to like. Booking is essential and a visit not to be missed. All the right precautions are in place."
"Absolutely brilliant!! For a village pub, this one is superb!! It looks very welcoming from the outside, being built of the local honey-coloured stone, and has a lovely 'feel ' inside. The quality of the food is excellent, portions are plentiful and the beer is pretty darn good too. Inside the building is sort of split into two, there 's a bar area with seating at the front and a dedicated dining area to the rear which is a little quieter, not that the bar is at all rowdy but it could be on a weekend?! We intend to be regular visitors as its well worth the 20 minute journey from where we live."

"We booked two rooms through booking.com one for us and our three dogs, the other for our daughters. The rooms were next to each other and handy for the dogs, as they led out to the car park/lake and walking area. The rooms were basic, but comfortable and fairly clean. People walked right past our windows/rooms to access the inn, but we had blinds, so it was fairly private. We ate in the bar area. The menu was simple and food was ok. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was great. Handy location for Yeovil. We would consider staying again if we returned to the area , but it could do with a face lift and a refresh."

"This delightful pub, owned by Di and Dave, offers a lovely menu created by Dave. It is a very relaxing place to visit. The average price per person is between £10 and £20. The food, service, and atmosphere all receive a top rating of 5. Recommended dishes include the Apple Rhubarb Crumble, Roast Beef Dinner, Fish and Chips, and Salads."
