"We decided to go for dinner at pizza express Oxted this evening but unsure of what time. I checked the website to see what time they closed and it said 22:30. I called the restaurant to check what was the latest time to place an order for food and they told me 22:15. They said there was no need to book a table as they weren’t busy. We arrived at 21:30 to be greeted by an empty restaurant and all staff staring at us like they’d seen a ghost! A male member of staff then asked “takeaway?” I said “no, I called 20 minutes ago to ask when last orders were and was told 22:15, it is only 21:30” the staff members then all looked at each other shocked and one said “but we’ve cleaned the kitchen!” They spoke amongst themselves for a short time while we stood waiting and then we were told it was fine and to take a seat and they’d get us some food. Obviously this is extremely unwelcoming. I called ahead of time to ensure there was space for us and that we were there in plenty of time to order food so we didn’t get there at the last minute and make everyone wait. We then placed our order quickly. Whilst we were eating our starter, a lady, who Ivan only assume was the manager as she was not wearing uniform, was leant on the counter staring at us while spinning her keys in her hands, she then started wandering around. It was the most unwelcoming experience I have ever had in a restaurant. Perhaps this would have been acceptable if we had arrived 1 minute before they had stopped serving food, however, we checked the time and arrived 45 minutes before they stopped taking orders. This was most unwelcoming, had I not been so tired I would have left and gone elsewhere, but I just wanted to eat dinner and go home. The food was delicious, no problems there. Just the unprofessional welcome of all staff members especially the manager who stood and stared at us while we ate our food which made us feel slightly uncomfortable."

"The Diamond is everything we look for in a traditional pub! It has maintained its authentic identity and doesn't try to be something it's not. This is not condescending, but rather a compliment. Many pubs have lost sight of what it means to be a true pub. Julie, Boz, and their staff all extend a warm welcome. They offer a great selection of beers that includes European lagers and traditional local ales, rather than focusing solely on hip and trendy craft ales. The wine is served in beautiful glasses, elevating the experience. Julie's food is delicious, especially the outstanding Sunday roast and diverse menu not commonly found in pubs today. The kitchen staff avoid the use of food pings, demonstrating a genuine effort to provide high-quality home-cooked meals that never disappoint. The pub features a beautiful sunlit garden with custom furniture and a Mediterranean-inspired deck area covered in natural grape vines, creating an ambiance that transports you to another place. Sundays are particularly enjoyable at The Diamond, with a variety of home-cooked roasts, drinks with friends, and the entertaining meat raffle hosted by Boz. The pub exudes a sense of tradition and unity, something that many other pubs lack. Julie and Boz continuously strive to offer diverse events and entertainment throughout the year, earning them the love and support of their customers and contributing to their success. If you have a bucket list, be sure to include a visit to The Diamond!"

"Disappointing that this pub has fallen so far in terms of general standards; I used to enjoy coming here. The food: The food was below average and when I asked if the burgers on the menu were homemade, the staff member didn't know. We opted for pizzas given how good they used to be from the authentic pizza oven on site, but the food was barely warm and lacking flavour. The ice cream sundae for dessert consisted of two very small scoops of ice cream and a small bit of cream that had been whipped to the point of becoming butter. When a jug of water arrived at the table for us, it had a couple of silverfish in it. The service: The service was pleasant enough on the whole in terms of attitude, but there was no actual service itself. I was told after our food had arrived that I could fetch my own cutlery from a table at the other end of the pub which had cutlery boxes on it; if a customer has to go and get their own cutlery, it would be useful to know this before the food arrives. Both food courses were painfully slow to arrive despite the pub being practically empty. Once i had been presented with our bill, i was completely ignored. I eventually went to find a member of staff so that I could pay, and there were several staff just chatting away amongst themselves. When I explained that I wanted to pay, no one seemed particularly bothered. At no point during our visit did we really feel we were being served and looked after as you would have expected. The pub was the quietest I have seen it could have been the time of year, could just be a sign of the poor standards there. Usually I would have a conversation with the venue about my negative experience before leaving a public review, but in response to other poor reviews, the management have claimed to have addressed some of the same issues that we then experienced, which suggests nothing more than lip service and that they just don't care and haven't fixed anything. It is glaringly obvious for all the wrong reasons that this pub recently changed hands/management and they have a lot of work to do."
