Australia - Menu

Tried again for lunch but nothing on. A bit hit and miss with food service and sometimes an odd atmosphere. Beer good though.

Worth stopping for lunch if you’re on the train trip. Good service and nice pub food. Had a very nice burger and family had good scampi.

We ordered the steak pie and lamb mains. Each were served with fresh vegetables, which we appreciated since we are touring. It was delicious comfort food. Good value for money.

Great tasting real ales from the Purple Moose brewery. Good prices for fantastic ale. We didn’t eat there but the menu looked good and judging by the amount of people that came in just before they started serving evening meals it must be good,

The Purple Moose brewery brewery some pretty decent cask ales. So that is already a 5 star for me. But I know some people want a pub to serve decent food as well. So you're in luck, The Australia does. So excellent beer and food coupled with fantastically friendly bar maids makes this a two thumbs up pub from me.

The worst meal ever. We waited well over one hour to be served. When delivered, the steak and ale pies were rock hard. We were told they were the last ones available. We returned them and asked for lasagne instead. We had to complain about the length of time taken. The other two had long finished their meals. A complete disaster. I would not even give such fare to my dog.

We stopped here after reading about the gluten free options on offer however were disturbed to find that these options are not gluten free at all. They're suitable for those avoiding gluten but NOT for coeliacs as the kitchen uses the same frier for all gluten and non-gluten ingredients. Not only this, the person we spoke to tried to tell us that if cooked over a certain temperature the gluten is killed off. Not only is that scientifically and factually incorrect, it's dangerous information for those less informed. Needless to say we walked out. Coeliacs avoid.

We were staying a few days just outside Porthmadog. Today we went into the town and had been recommended to visit this eatery. Why? Because the Nachos were to die for. We were not disappointed. From walking in to leaving we were treated as individuals, with respect. The menu was excellent, prices so realistic especially when you saw the size of the servings. Steve who served us throughout was jovial, professional and respectful. The service was quick, booths clean and well equipped with condiments and even power supply for phone charging and laptops. Ignore how the outside looks, go in: food, beer, staff and locals are all excellent. Great for family dining : great find for us. Loved the purple moose decor throughout as this is the pub associated with the purple moose brewery. The staff are quite young and whilst this is not fine dining : they were beyond helpful and attentive. My husband and I went with my daughter, partner and two children (6 9 months) on our last night of a family break away. Gutted only went on the last night to be honest.
