Sandwiches tasted incredible but could have had something like chickpeas to make more filling and nutritious. I would have also liked more vegan sandwich fillings to be available. Service was fairly quick but waiting for a table can take 30-40 minutes. Updated from previous review on 2021-10-23

I went there as it's a popular tourist spot and I expected quality service. The food was okay. Extremely long wait time unfortunately and the staff as attentive as they were could not make the price worth the quality of the food. I'm sorry for only leaving three stars as I genuinely liked my server but I want to be honest

My treat to me this xmas eve, vegan afternoon tea with spiced Christmas tea, from walking through that door, the welcome, being seated, allergy check, wonderful experience worth every penny…and then my order came!!!!!!!! And it got better!!!! In fact, I had to double check if this was all VEGAN, fresh fresh fresh!!! Superb, a huge thank you to all, fabulous memory for me my first Christmas in this region x x

My husband and I ordered afternoon tea priced at £30 per head and what a disappointment. We each had 4 triangle sandwiches with crusts removed, a standard scone with jam and cream and 3 tiny bite size cakes and a pot of tea. No choice of scone and no whiff of anything savoury. How can Betty’s justify charging £60 for 2 afternoon teas and producing this mediocre food. Talk about feeling ripped off! Never again!

Each time we travel to Yorkshire we always make time to get to a Bettys, mostly this branch in Northallerton as the parking in the high street is quite easy, although you have to pay now. I always have an individual curd tart hubby normally the day rascal, with the obligatory pot of tea When I went to pay the bill I did notice that the prices have certainly risen £22 for 2 cakes tea!! But it’s only once a year.

We dropped in to Betty’s Tea Room at Northallerton for light birthday lunch what a lovely atmosphere. Just for a moment it felt like we could have stepped back in time. Dawn our waitress was so friendly, yet professional and so attentive. Just as we were leaving and she went to get the bill she ran back with two small lit cakes, as she learned we were celebrating our birthdays thank you for making our visit so special and special thanks to Dawn!

Not a huge number of vegan choices on a large menu but I went for the ‘roasted red pepper sandwich with pickled onion, pine nut pesto and oat fraiche’ and confirmed I had no allergies. The sandwich came with no pesto or oat fraiche, but this wasn’t mentioned when it arrived. I basically paid £8.75 for a small salad sandwich. When I queried it, they said they had no oat fraiche and therefore wouldn’t put the pesto on either ‘because of allergens’. I’d already said I had no allergies but asked which allergen they were worried about. ‘Gluten’. It was a wheat bread sandwich. They remade the sandwich with the pesto so it was tastier, but the whole thing was odd and awkward and I wished I’d not do...

I will definitely have it again. My Carnivore father could not believe how pretty and colorful it saw you offer oats or soy milk with coffee, although there are many specialties teas to choose from.
