"Whilst spending a couple of nights in Portpatrick the wife and I decided to take a wee trip to Drummore. As we approached the village we whizzed past the Clashwhannon, as it comes up on the road quite quickly, and although a large enough building it 's easy to drive past. Once we 'd passed it we saw signs for the 'Ship Inn ', and so both needing the loo at this stage we continued to follow the signs.By the time we 'd driven past the harbour and out towards a picnic spot parking place, we realised that we 'd missed the Ship Inn. Either that or it 'd sailed off somewhere! We U turned and headed back the way we 'd just come and this time didn 't miss the Clashwhannon. It was a beautiful hot day so we chose to sit outside, but entered the restaurant area to order. This is a large and roomy pub restaurant, and the staff were welcoming and friendly.I ordered the liver and bacon casserole with mash, my wife the vegetarian curry. Both meals were delicious and plentiful, served hot and promptly, well cooked and well presented. One alcoholic drink and one large juice, two meals and less than £25. Result.Anytime we 're next in the area, we 'll return."

Ate and drank here twice in July. Food was nice (fish pie, scampi, hot beef bap) would’ve rated higher if chips hadn’t been the basic frozen type. Dogs allowed in to smaller bar only. Surprised that the beer wasn’t better as it’s in the Camra good beer guide (a bit hazy shame).

Been going to this great place for a few years now and must say the owners and staff are some of the friendliest people you will meet, the food and drink is great and always made to feel at home one thing I will say is they always remember our dogs Boycee Barney, they love them too bitsPeter Claire

We eat here regularly when holidaying nearby. A traditional local pub with great hospitality and consistently good food. A varied menu, nothing fancy, just well cooked food, reasonably priced. The seafood enchilada is a firm favourite. Dogs are welcome in the bar but the dining room is more pleasant and spacious. I can highly recommend.

Passing by so dropped in without looking at TA. No friendly welcome which wasn't a good start. Lady behind the bar gave the impression she wanted to be somewhere else. Steak pie had lots of tender steak and was a good portion with chips and peas and carrots. Ruined by the fact it was heavily salted. When i mentioned it to two staff after both asked if everything was OK, I was just told it was their most popular dish, like that made it alright!! Fish pie was excellent, again a good portion with chips, salad garnish and garlic bread. Personally, I would not return.

Had a takeaway meal in May from here. I had curry which was adequate, I got takeaway fish and chips for my parents. Really terrible, batter awful, chips awful. Everything had been made much earlier and thrown back in to reheat it. The dark brown look of the batter was a giveaway. A definite no no with any hot food especially fish and chips. My parents could barely touch theirs. Almost overshadowed an otherwise great week for my mother. Fish and chips seem to be too hard to get right for many hotels so best pick something else if you are eating here would be my advice...

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
