"27/03/15 My first visit to The Alice. As you drive into the village of Nun Monkton, you absorb your beautiful surroundings of this quaint little village and look in awe at the green and the very tall may pole. This small village boasts the largest may pole and green in the whole of the UK. Upon arriving at the pub, I could see the chickens and vegatables growing in their gardens, this, always a pleasing sight to be had. The Alice boasts an array of outdoor seating at the front and in the secluded, manicured gardens to the rear too. The pub is beautifully decorated with a small, intimate dining room, a bar area for more casual dining and drinks and a large room, perfect for larger parties. Rebecca, the Assistant manager chats to me about their up and coming plans for the premises and the option to have drinks receptions in the barn for larger parties, served around a warming fire pit in the colder months. I order a gin and tonic, served with rosemary and cucumber, a delightful and refreshing special and begin choosing food to order. I view the creative menu and opt for goats cheese croquettes, walnut, apple and beetroot to start. The flavours blend delightfully and offer an explosion of taste jointly, for main the Chicken tagliatelle which is served in a rich, creamy sauce and made with fresh paster, seasoned perfectly. Next time, I will save space for dessert, but this time, there was simply no room left! Beautiful food at reasonable prices and with something for everyone."

"Charming and inviting village pub. We visited for a Sunday lunch with family, and the dining area was both comfortable and well-lit. There were three meat options for the Sunday roast, and we all opted for the beef. The meals looked freshly prepared and were served on hot plates. The portions were generous, featuring a substantial piece of meat accompanied by a large homemade Yorkshire pudding. Our plates included leeks, both mashed and roasted potatoes, and we ordered a side of gravy along with a separate dish of red cabbage, carrot and swede mash, and broccoli. It was more than enough for our table of five. The staff were friendly and attentive. Only our daughter had room for dessert, indulging in an ice cream sundae that looked absolutely delightful. I regret not taking a photo of our main course since we were too eager to dig in! Highly recommended, and we will definitely return."

"This pub came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. Visited in January with my family and we all enjoyed the delicious home made burgers served with home made chips, onion rings and coleslaw. The best we’ve had in any pub and we’ve visited a lot over the years! We loved it so much we visited again in March for Mother’s Day. We were told that the burgers were not on the menu that day due to it being a special set menu. Feeling very disappointed, I asked the owner, Vick if we could request the burgers as we had been looking forward to sampling them again. She agreed and went above and beyond to cook them for us again. They tasted just as good as the first time! All the staff are friendly and courteous and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you for accommodating us and we’ll definitely be back soon!"

"We stumbled upon the Dawney Arms by chance, and we couldn't be happier about it. The food was exceptional. The staff member who served us was impeccable—very accommodating, efficient, helpful, and friendly. The landlady, who is also the chef, personally came to our table to ensure we were satisfied with our meals. I must say, this was one of the best pub meals we've had in a long time, and I highly recommend visiting this little gem. Wonderful experience! "This place is fantastic! However if you don 't like trains, or the noise of trains, think carefully if you intend to stay over, after all you are right next to the 'East Coast Mainline ' from York to the North, and the trains run 24hrs. The staff, the food, the ambience and the overall feel of 'The Sidings ' is amazing. I have never met such friendly, passionate and wonderful people before. You can tell they really love this place. I opted to stay for 2 nights, but I enjoyed the experience so much I extended it to 3 nights. These guys really do go out of their way to make you feel welcome and valued. Cannot recommend 'The Sidings ' highly enough. Will definitely be rebooking in the future, possibly for longer."
