"We 've been to this pub on a couple of occasions recently, once for my Birthday in October with my wife and once as a family of 5 for Sunday lunch. Both visits were really disappointing, meaning that I don 't think we will be returning in a hurry... We have been patrons for a while, and previously we 've been really really happy. The food was always excellent as was the service. But sadly, no more. The birthday dinner in October was really below the standard we came to expect. Items missing from our order, and the standard was not at all good. Bland, cold and lacklustre. The same can be said about our visit on Sunday. Parts of our order were fridge cold. Not like they had been sitting out for a while, but fridge cold... The staff were attentive, and the tall head waiter chap was engaging and helpful, but the 'spark ' that made this place such a destination restaurant has well and truly left the building. The setting and the building itself remains beautiful. I don 't know if this place is under new management, or if it has new owners but I hope they take this review in the spirit in which it is meant and that they make the changes needed to get the place back on track...."

A cosy, country pub with a good menu plenty of choices that were competitively priced. Our meals were superb and we found all of the staff friendly and professional.

The atmosphere is lovely and the food is exceptional, with a great variety of beers and wines available. The staff is very welcoming as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent quality of food, and service. The meal arrived hot and well presented and we were really well looked after by the excellent Kiera. Chose to eat in the Farmers Bar with a very inviting fire and lovely atmosphere. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

I initially stopped in for a drink after a country walk in January, but ended up staying for a delightful lunch. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. The crab linguine was delicious, flavorful, and generously portioned. The beer was refreshing and helped rejuvenate me after a 5-mile trek through the muddy and wet terrain. This hidden gem of a gastropub is definitely worth a visit!

Lovely welcoming ambience even though pub not busy. Staff charming and attentive but not overbearing. Bar service very good and food ordering efficient. Both of us had beefburger which was excellent, well cooked, fresh a flavourful. The chunky chips were only just warm which we mentioned to our server who apologised and within a couple of minutes replaced them. We were both impressed with our experience and also impressed when issues are dealt with so well. Would highly recommend and will definitely return. Thank you!!!

This pub is absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is pleasant, the staff are wonderful, and the food is delicious. We enjoyed our experience so much that we dined there two nights in a row. The staff were incredibly friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We were also pleased to find out that the pub is dog-friendly, which was a big bonus for us. Our furry friend was well taken care of as well. We highly recommend this restaurant and the lovely people who work there. It is definitely a must-visit pub. You will not be disappointed! We have visited thus lovely establishment several times, including Xmas day lunch, and it's always been good. How things have changed. The phone is never answered so you have to book on line. On arrival with my elderly Father we were shown to our table one of the very nice staff. We commented that it was cold inside and asked for the heating to be turned up, not very inviting. The food arrived on tepid plates, the food itself was only just warm and soon went cold. The 3 tiny pots of vegetables were slso cold and were of megre size. They offered to change these, but as they were already our plates, there seemed little point. Desserts arrived and I think portion control was order of the day he...

A Christmas family get together was our reason for meeting at The ****. It was a random choice so no preconceived ideas on the experience. Due to the number in our party we pre ordered our food from the festive menu. There was a good£ atmosphere in the restaurant and we were quickly called through from the bar when the table was ready. I had chosen the trout pate and it was very tasty. There was a lot of trout but I ate every morsel. I heard no complaints from anybody else, with the soup gaining positive comments. We had a bit of a wait for the main courses but with the size of our party this could be expected. I would rathe4 wait and everyone get their food at the same time rather than it c...

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
