"We visited here on the first Monday they were able to open following Lockdown.All safety precautions were in place with clear instructions visible. Staff were efficient, polite even under the unusual social distancing restrictions.This was our second visit we were not disappointed. Will definitely be back would highly recommend"

day of opening since lock down and it felt very well organised and safe.Staff were helpful with table service and food was great. I would def recommend especially as I felt safe no over crowding at all

Possibly the best roast dinner I’ve ever had! Went for a long walk with friends and booked in here for Sunday lunch. We had an outside table over looking the cricket field. Food was amazing. Service was great. Such a lovely pub Visualizza piatti

First visit to your restaurant, went there on friends recommendations. My wife and l both had fish and chips, my fish was all bent up and tough, mushy peas were cold and very small portion. My wife enjoyed her meal but her chips were far to large. Perhaps we come on the wrong day

What a lovely Sunday treat! Took Ruby’s Nanny, Grandad and Uncle Peter for a little get together and everyone loved the food! Roast dinners all round which were delicious followed by seasonal crumble and custard! What more could we ask for! highly recommend and worth the drive! Thanks Samantha and Harry

"Friendly pub with a good menu. We both enjoyed our lunches though I have to say the pie was great, better than the fish and chips (the batter was not the greatest very yellow and not as crisp and bubbly as some but the fish was good). Portion size is very generous. Lunch time deals are good. Would def recommend and would go back. Bill was around £35 for two courses and a drink can't argue. Didn't even need a dinner that night monster sized sticky toffee pudding! Quite a few people in on lunch time (it was valentines though) which is great to see."

"Nice atmosphere, service and beer. Fish and chip lunch was disappointing. the Haddock was cooked in cool oil so it was soggy and had greasy batter. Fish portion was small and rather tasteless. Chips were also tasteless and cooked at too low a temperature. I asked for some bread and got a slice of Mothers Pride that came already covered in butter/spread. I don't have either on my bread normally, and expected a bread roll or something. No-one asked me if my meal was ok, otherwise I would have discussed this with them. As I say it seems like a nice pub, but I don't think they should have let my meal leave the kitchen."

"The food has gone down-hill in recent weeks. I am unsure what has happened but the packaging has changed, all of our favourite food now comes VERY different. For example then wraps are tightly wrapped with not much substance, the fishcakes and chips are stale, and the sausages have changed to a very processed taste. We used to order weekly but now we will try again in a few months. UPDATE 23/04/2024 This was an old review, i can say that it has improved back to how it used to be, i'm not sure what has changed but good job Trawlies :"

"I’ve always liked the food here and my wife and I thought we would pop in for lunch. I have to say the food was nice, however I was less than impressed with the service. I felt like we were just a nuisance and everything was rushed. I asked for ketchup and he just brought over a massive bottle and slammed it onto the table. Everything felt money oriented and almost annoyance we didn’t spend more (our bill was over £30 for lunch) I have to say it made us feel a bit uncomfortable, especially with a little baby and with the amount of competition in Saffron Walden I do find the service in some places quite shocking. I would have to think twice about going again- which is a shame as it’s somewhere we have gone fairly often."

"Booked a table for dinner, three people. And I have never left a restaurant so fast, this place shouldn't even be called a restaurant to be honest. It's more like a bar/nightclub. No one cared to ask us if we're ready to order and it was very hard to get any attention as all the staff cared for is the party at the back. We were really hungry, waited 30 min and when it finally arrived it wasn't a proper meal. The shared platter that my boyfriend ordered was the only decent amount of food out of the three orders. The atmosphere would have been nice if it wasn't for a group of people entering the place constantly trying to build a DJ booth at the back. We were seated by the very doors with uncomfortable chairs and a really low table. Ended up going to McDonald's at the end. This place is a waste of time and money unless you want the bar experience. So, if your looking for a place to have dinner, this place isn't it."
