The food was delectable and beautifully presented, making for an enjoyable dining experience. "I regret that I have to significantly downgrade my previously glowing review. Very disappointing Sunday lunch experience at the Barge in Woolstone today. Dirty foggy glasses covered with specks of limescale and stubborn lipsticks stains, a House Pinot Grigiot that tasted like a cocktail of citric acid mixed with anti-freeze which made my taste buds shrivel, soggy roast potatoes, vegetables that tasted of water... But the drop too much was what was served to three of us as a Slow cooked half-chicken : little more than a rather dry and tasteless leg with a bit of breast attached! The Manager explained that this was the new spec of their supplier !! So be warned everybody, it sounds like a large leg now qualifies as half a chicken !!! I leave two stars because the staff is nice and the manager was kind enough to give us a discount, but I 'm sorry to say that I 've had better meals at Motorway services!"

"It seems the restaurant positions itself at a certain standard but fails to deliver on that promise. If they simplified their menu to focus on traditional pub offerings with fewer items but executed them better, it would significantly improve the experience. They label some dishes as "pub classics"—like an aubergine miso, which feels somewhat out of place—and then charge premium prices for items like a £60 steak or a £31 beef Wellington. Overall, the menu feels disjointed, and most dishes come across as lacking any real care or thought. They simply look and taste like uninspired food. While the portion sizes are large, it's just a lot of mediocre food, which isn't appealing. I ordered bruschetta topped with aubergine and feta paste. It consisted of two slices of bread, which were sizeable but overwhelmingly garlicky and not very enjoyable. When I inquired about the feta, I was told it was mixed with the aubergine paste, but I couldn't taste any feta at all and ended up leaving a slice behind. For my main course, I chose the pea and parmesan risotto, and I added salmon, thinking it would be a nice complement. However, I expected that if they were suggesting this pairing, they would balance the flavors accordingly. Unfortunately, the dish was unappetizing both in taste and presentation; I left half of it untouched. Again, it was a large portion of food that simply didn't deliver on flavor. It felt as though the generous serving sizes were an attempt to compensate for the lack of taste. I've noticed several five-star reviews and wonder how this can be; perhaps it’s just my partner and me who feel this way. I left the restaurant feeling overpowered by garlic and wishing I could have added salt to make the food more interesting. That’s never a good sign. As someone who usually finishes all their meals, I left half of each dish. Regrettably, I think I’ll be passing on this place in the future. I've given it multiple chances, only to have the same underwhelming experience each time."

"Came in for lunch, looked at the menu as given to us and not informed that numerous things were missing. When ordering we was told there was no lobster for the prawn and lobster cocktail but we still ordered it. I ordered the Henry burger that is a 25.00 burger so you expect something decent. The burgers were dry and over cooked, short rib burgers should be bubbling with juices but no,chicken was dryish and chewy, no gammon and the fried egg was way overcooked. I get that it's a big feat making something like this but everything tasted precooked and thrown on the grill to bring up to a higher temperature. Items were definitely left in a merry chef or some kind of hot hold. I personally would not recommend this burger but the others look quite nice and a bit easier to make. I wasn't going to quibble as it is what it is and the staff seemed sufficient for the job. Very hit and miss here as my brother in law had a great meal last week but as an ex chef maybe my standards are a little bit higher... Who knows !"

"We booked the restaurant for a celebratory two person dinner a great experience. Warm welcome, close attention to our needs and a faultless food service. Selecting your steak with the chef is a nice touch, perfected by this venue. The rest of the staff are very attentive demonstrating top end restaurant service shout out to Caitlin who looked after us very well attentive without being obtrusive."
