"we have booked with the very plough dalesman gastronomics, which has fine eating and excellent beer and environment. but they don't fool them, we were in the nearby off-site pub, the red lion, which is nothing like the dalesman. no suite, just a room next door, with a nice shower, but the room was pretty grubby. we were on the same stage as the cook, although we did not see him. the entrance to the rooms is at the back, at the top a worn back staircase. the kitchen is located in the second floor and there is even a room opposite. the pub was a running football type and I'm glad we eat in the dalesman. make sure where you stay when booking with the dalesman!"

We stopped here for lunch on our Dalesway walk, and it was so good we had to return for dinner! Excellent honest pub grub, generous portions and very delicious! Special shout out to the lady behind the bar, very warm, welcoming, helpful and funny!

we had an extraordinary Sunday dinner. sat by a beautiful dame with an evil feeling of humor, although she was blown by her feet nothing was too much annoying. it is a shame that we live so far away, as there are not many pubs that make...a Sunday roasting right

here for a Sunday roast. I'm vegetarian and I can honestly say it was one of the best frying memories I've ever had when I eat. the rest of our party had roasted and portioned were plentiful and they all loved it. very friendly staff. in any case, we will come back when we are close.

Went to this pub on off chance for evening meal . Was greeted by a cheerful landlady who served us very efficiently and was friendly. The menu has a good choice and food was lovely and plentiful. I had the steak and ale pie which...was full of tender meat and flavour . Definitely recommend and would go back again .

We called in for a drink and was made to feel welcome from the start. This is a dog friendly pub which get my vote although we didn’t have ours with us. We went for a wonder and came back for something to eat again...Anna (fleetwood) has she was from Blackpool made us feel welcomed again. Food was piping hot and delicious. Highly recommend for friendliness. Dalesmen could learn a thing or two from this pub.

Excellent generous great value Sunday lunch! Came here with my wife and young spaniel after a short walk in charming Sedbergh. Friendly greeting and very accommodating staff. Great meal, good quality beef, cauliflower cheese and pint jug of gravy (great to see when up north)....Really satisfied particularly and recommend if you want an good honest Sunday pub lunch, with a decent pint of Jennings to wash it down.

We called and had a couple of pints of decent cask beer decided to eat as the food coming out looked good. The table we were sat at was reserved for 8pm as it was 7pm, we asked for another table so we...wouldn’t be rushed. The only table available had a dog asleep on the long seat and, no matter how much I love my pets, I don’t think this should be allowed in an eating place. We ended up staying at the reserved table gulping our food down when it arrived. The food was very good.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
