"I was looking for a restaurant that offered gluten-free options along with regular choices, as I have celiac disease but my husband does not. We were both pleased with the variety of options available. I ordered the chicken pakora and my husband had the vegetable pakora. For my main course, I enjoyed a generous portion of fish and chips, which was the best gluten-free fish I have had since my diagnosis. The service provided by the two gentlemen serving us was fantastic. Our visit was well worth it and we will definitely be returning again."

"First visit at the invitation of a friend who is a regular visitor. We had Afternoon Tea. To call it that does not do it justice. It was not Afternoon Tea, it was an Afternoon Experience. Something very special. The food, the service, the atmosphere is exceptional. The couple who own and run the restaurant should be really proud of what they have achieved. It was our first visit but certainly won’t be our last."

"Out with my friend from work, excellent meal and very good service too, attentive but not intrusive. Food was freshly cooked and good helping too. Chicken dhansak that I had was probably one of the best I have had. Would definitely recommend."

"OMG, what a shame. The food we ate on Saturday evening was delicious, however every other aspect of our dining experience was dreadful. The service was horrendous from start to finish. We were sat next to a particularly noisy table who were using ‘colourful’ language which was never challenged throughout our meal. A couple of young french ladies who arrived at the same time as my husband and I, still hadn’t had any food by the time we were ready to pay the bill which made me feel quite uncomfortable actually. To finish our evening off we were going to be charged for someone else’s bar bill until we questioned it. However we were still charged £5:95 for a glass of flat soda water and a Diet Coke. I can say with confidence that we will not be returning any time soon"

"Great food, lovely cosy surroundings and nice people, nothing not to like. Our second visit on our yearly pilgrimage north or the border. Our first visit was last year and we were on a fairly tight timescale, wanting to get done by 8pm to go and see the lone pipers tribute to the late Queen outside Ballater church (a very poignant moment), so the food whilst delicious was probably not savoured as much as it deserved. This time however we had no such time constraints and this allowed us to fully appreciate the food we were served and I can honestly say, for the price the food is some of the most tasty and flavoursome you can find. Service is fast, friendly and professional and food is served at a steady pace with plenty of “breathing room” between courses. They operate a fixed price 2 or 3 course menu which is varied and embraces lots of local produce and Scottish delicacies. Flavours throughout are rich, vibrant and multi-layered, something that I always rate highly. There is no need to add salt and pepper to any of the dishes I found, they all were delivered perfectly seasoned, which is an art in itself. Suffice it to say we loved it and even the spillage of a glass of Prosecco (which our server was so apologetic over) was quickly mopped up and didn’t dash our enthusiasm for this place. It is safe to say we will return every time we are in the area, well done to everyone involved and especially the chefs who quietly muster up great tasting food!!"

"A wonderful place to visit in an idyllic location near the river Dee. We stayed in the area for a few days and went for walks around and a visit to Loch Muick, however the cafe would be well worth the trip from Aberdeen for...the day or as an excuse to stay nearby. The cafe is by a green with swings for children and is dog friendly with ample parking. The staff at Potarch are very welcoming and the service was exemplary. The cafe is a Scottish haven with a cosy interior, lovely decor and beautiful plants. A wood burner in the corner must be ideal on colder days but we were lucky to visit when the weather was warm. The cafe serves local, fresh food and meat from the farm on the estate. The owners clearly care a lot about where they source their food and focus on ensuring top quality ingredients are used to make all of their meals. The food and drink are excellent value and the portions are a very good size. We tried the coffee which was served in beautiful teacups and was delicious. The homemade fish finger sandwich was wonderful and came with pickled cucumber and homemade tartare sauce. The rustic fries went excellent as a side and the bread the fish came in was homemade and very tasty. We also tried the cheese and black pudding toastie which we would highly recommend, the venison burger which was one of the best burgers we’ve ever had and shared the side salad. The salad was wonderful, with fresh leaves, feta and quinoa and came dressed in a lovely dressing. We would definitely go back and wish we lived closer as it would be a frequent place if we did. We look forward to our next trip to Potarch from the south of England."

"Perfect location for lunch, following our morning walk across the beach. The option of outside tables and chairs allowed us to enjoy the views, and watch all the many dogs being walked through the Stonehaven sea front. The cappuccinos was very good (European style) and the toasted sandwich which was accompanied by very tasty side salad was cooked to perfection. The customer service was excellent, very friendly, and welcoming atmosphere, topped off by the perfect location, I would definitely be back next time we are in town. Highly recommend."

"We recently visited the Finzean Estate Farm Shop On a Saturday drive. We ordered 2 soups for lunch.Would have preferred the soup to be thicker but tasted lovely. It was a busy day and we were seated on a table with the possibility others would also sit beside us which we would have preferred not to be the case but luckily no other guests arrived. The bread and oatcakes offered were substantial and very nice.I would recommend if you are out for a drive and fancy a light lunch!"

"Having grown accustomed to fantastic Indian food in Glasgow, my friend and I decided to try a curry on a whim. We had no expectations, but were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at this restaurant. The menu had a modern twist and the dishes were sensational. I would rate it a 10/10, rivaling some of the best Indian restaurants in Glasgow. It was impressive to find such excellent food in a relatively small town like Inverurie. I have heard that it is very popular, and it is no surprise why. Bravo to this restaurant for bringing such high-quality Indian cuisine to Inverurie."

"Authentic South-East Asian food. Tried several times different foods. Some foods are really up to the mark. Still feel the taste of salmon grill on my taste bud. If anyone likes spicy food he/she can try mutton curry. Handy collection of drinks, specious and congenial environment inside restaurant and smiling faces of staffs are another strong sides indeed. Recommended for passing by precious time with family and friends. Cheers"

"It was very busy when we went today. There were more than enough serving staff so I can only imagine the issue was an overloaded kitchen We waited about 20 minutes before we got served, then almost another hour before I asked someone to check on the food as it was so long in coming. When our drinks arrived, the cup for my son was dirty abs the drink had things floating in it. We asked for another, it was also dirty. When did come, it was missing parts and had the wrong accompaniments, my mums order was missing completely. The hot food luke warm and my salad was also luke warm. We mentioned all of this at the till, but no apology was forthcoming. This is the 3rd really bad experience we have had here, others included chicken in a veggie meal and oat milk being mixed up with regular milk and no offer to take back and change this-even when we mentioned one of us has anaphylaxis when consuming oats! We like to try out again energy now and then because it's so local. Needless to say, we will leave it a long time this time..."

"The staff were so attentive, very helpful and well mannered, they made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Very clean and compliments to chef for the cauliflower soup it was outstanding, I've only tasted soup like it once so there was a high expectation on my behalf but it excelled that and then some it was so delicious, thankyou for your hospitality, its not easy going into a restaurant with autistic children but they made the kids feel at ease , will definitely be back if we are up this way again. "we booked our table a few weeks before our stay in ballater. we found the restaurant to be busy and were warmly welcomed by the employees. we have poppadome with pickle tablet, followed by chicken shallow, peshwari naan, veg. rogan josh, clear...Chapatti, a side by brinjal bhaji. because my partner is not eating rice, we asked for a green salad that is not on the menu, and that was not a problem. that was the first class over the board. I have eaten hundreds of curries in Britain and that was as good as a curry as I had everywhere. also the personal was really friendly and responsive, and our eating and drinks were quickly overhauled. we were surprised when we got the bill, it was a great value for nice eating. is coming back."

"There is a beautiful vegan baguette: with falafel, beautiful vegan cheese, and delicious Chili jam. In principle, half of the (male) cakes are available vegan. There is usually a vegan soup. Sometimes non-vegan dishes are suitable to become vegan, so if other options run out, it is no problem. There are 4 alternative milk: oats, almond, coconut and soya. Dairy free mochas and hot chocolates available. Option of cinnamon on top of cappuccinos (instead of standard milk chocolate powder). This is definitely the best place in Stonehaven for a vegan lunch / coffee / or cake, and seems to be even better. A beautiful café interior and a beautiful service."

"It was like a cattle market …The customers were packed in you could barely move ! Other customers from tables were having to get up to let an older lady past with her zimmer frame, There was no system as 4 different waitress came to ask us our order. The waitress that severed us was rude and dismissive and she didn’t know what was available, when I asked her to ask the kitchen she never went to ask the kitchen. When the food came, the salad was sour which isn’t to everyone’s taste. I had a chicken mayo panini and it was yellow and didn’t taste fresh. Another member of the party had a panini and it was just thrown on the the plate and the bacon was pretty much just fat. Would have gotten better value for money doing it myself considering the money we paid. I don’t mind spending money on good food however this was not good food. We are regular customers and it has defiantly went down hill. Won’t be in a rush back."

"We were pleased to get a last minute booking for lunch on a Saturday and on arrival were happy with their covid measures. A nice bright restuarant and we had a lovely view but that was luck as only 1 great window.Went for the lunch menu which is good value but noted for the a la carte still only 3 mains and a special which felt a little limiting perhaps just a consequence o the pandemic.Drinks arrived promptly with some bread which was a little dry.Staters we had a ham hock terrine (came with a pickled onion despite me saying did not want onions with main and not being listed) however it was pleasant and enjoyed the prune giving sweetness egg yolk dots did not offer much however. Hubby had gravalax with beetroot which was pleasant enough. For mains hubby had sea bass which was perfectly cooked but my rolled pork shoulder was a little disappointing (this time served with a charred spring onion despite the no onion request). It was a bit chewy and not enough of the fat either cooked off or removed. The polenta lacked the advertised parmesan flavour but was very crispy and the confit carrot tasty.Desserts we had the rice pudding which was yummy with cinnamon and apple but whilst the banana cake was tasty and moist it was fridge cold when warm would have been so much better. The chocolate sorbet served on the side was nice enough but not as expected as it was light suggesting perhaps a milk or drinking chocolate when I expected something darker anyway for those who remember tasted a bit like a mini milk lolly!Fudge with coffee seemed wrong in Scotalnd we prefer tablet but there you go. Last gripe was £4.20 for a double espresso seemed steep compared to other charges.Overall it was ok but little tweaks could make significant difference. Now one thing they can do nothing about but worth knowing and please take care is how uneven the steps were. We were lucky it was a dry day and I'm only 48 but they really felt worrying."
