"We arrived frazzled because we drove around the grounds in the dark not knowing where to go. The signage inside the grounds is no help at all. Allow time for this if you haven't been before. Fortunately we had because we wanted a pre dinner drink in the bar before we ate. Even when we did arrive we weren't sure if we had arrived at the back entrance because we stood for ages with no welcome or acknowledgement. A very disappointing start to our evening. When someone did come they didn't take our coats. We went through to the snug for a drink. They gave us menus and went away. Later came back for our order. We got our drinks and ordered our food. Then very quickly afterwards we were asked to go through to the restaurant. We had only had a couple of sips of our drinks and it was still prior to the time we had actually booked our table for (7.30pm). We felt rushed. The food came and was fabulous. I had the beetroot starter which had beautifully cooked beetroots and some pickles. It also had a grain through it. I couldn't remember what the grain was so asked a member of staff. She didn't know so went away to ask and came back saying it was probably buckwheat....probably! My main was pork belly with parsnip and an apple reduction. The pork could have been cooked a little longer. I think belly needs to be very well cooked until really soft. The top skin was impossible to cut through as it was not crisp, I couldn't eat it. A steak knife would have helped. Having said that it was still a good dish which could have been excellent. We had sides of mashed potato and greens with pickles both superb. The presentation of both dishes was innovative and inviting. Portion size was good too not tiny portions of fiddled with food which I much prefer. The service was not as polished as the food. There was no obvious manager and we had different servers which is never quite as good as one for the entire meal. The servers were scruffy not appropriate for such a lovely building. Overall it was OK but could have been superb with more attention to some details. Service: 2 Location: 3"

A hidden gem, incredibly easy to get to but feels a world apart. A very classy renovation of an old estate into a modern hospitality venue, with excellent food and service to match. We visited for my Mum’s birthday celebration and it felt very special indeed. My single disappointment is that the waiters were still wearing masks, which I personally feel diminishes the humanity of service, and is not necessary. Otherwise, top top marks

I stopped by for an unexpected lunch while traveling and was thoroughly impressed. The scenery and grounds are stunning, and the venue is immaculate. The staff were polite and welcoming. The service was quick but felt unhurried, allowing for a relaxed experience. The meal was excellent, showcasing great attention to detail that really enhanced the dish. I was very impressed and would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area. Service: Dine-in; Meal type: Lunch; Price per person: £20–30.

I would echo a few of the other reviews on here in that the food is amazing, but the service is odd. Had booked prior and was shown to a lovely table and they took a drinks order , but that seemed to take a long time after ordering. Lack of staff available I think . Took a long time to order food also. Lots of different staff serving us also. I would sit everyone less spread out also and maybe sit us a bit nearer if a quiet day. It almost feels like you just get forgotten about . Service: 3 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury, Great view, Romantic Visualizza piatti

Lovely place, with lots going on (wedding in another building, other dining rooms, drinks outside). Food was lovely, service was polite and friendly but something was going wrong between ordering drinks and receiving them. Half an hour before 1st drinks arrived, so no charge. Then ran out of the beer I was drinking (black sheep ipa , although the receipt says Estrella) and my wife's drink when asked if she would like sparkling or flat cherry blossom cordial , chose sparkling but received flat. We would still go though, mistakes happen. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £50–60 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

We have visited twice, now. Once outside under the canvas canopy, with twinkling lights, blankets and heaters, and most recently in the beautiful restaurant. Each time the food was superb. It was inventive, tasty, beautifully presented, and all served with friendly efficient service. It’s not cheap, but perfect for a special occasion. We will definitely return. The whole estate and gardens are immaculate too. We spent roughly £40 a head for three people, including a starter, main course and drinks. We first discovered Middleton Lodge after having Sunday lunch highly recommended. We have yet to try that! Vegetarian options: Plenty of choice. The menu is divided up into land, Garden and sea. "It’s sort of become tradition for my wife I to treat ourselves to a breakfast out on our last day on holiday after leaving our cottage accommodation. We spent a week in Richmond; have never been to the area before and were pleased, after internet searching, to have found this lovely place. We had to leave our cottage by 10:00am and drove the short distance straight to Middlemoor Farm and, so, arrived quite early on a Saturday morning – we were the first to arrive. It was a lovely sunny day, which just emphasised the lovely surroundings. We were greeted by a lovely lady who asked us if we’d been before, to which we said no, and she explained that it was her first ever morning on breakfasts. She was most friendly and made us feel so-very welcome. There are plenty of tables inside and we chose to sit near a window overlooking a field with sheep grazing – I mean…what an idyllic place to have your breakfast. She and the Cook were so accommodating when we asked if we could both have a ‘full English’ but with veggie sausages instead of meat sausages bacon. I say accommodating because a veggie version was not on their menu and they had to look to see if they had any, which they did. That’s worth noting for those wishing not to eat meat – just ask ‘em and see. The breakfast, side plate of toast butter and pot of tea was just perfect – really tasty and we didn’t leave a thing. There’s a lovely shop attached with many gift items, very clean toilet facilities and in addition to the indoor seating, there’s plenty of outdoor seating too; some of which were covered with a gazebo during our visit. They have card payment facilities. Thank you to the staff of Middlemoor Farm Café for making our traditional last day breakfast out one to remember – we will be back if-staying in the area again."

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
