"This is a lovely pub with welcoming real fires in the winter months and hearty home cooking that can be washed down with a good selection of real ales.We visited recently for a meal and will definitely be back.Lothersdale is a lovely quiet little village nearer to Skipton than Keighley. It's also on the Pennine Way and some of the poor reviews I have seen are from walkers. I have to say that if it was my pub I would fall over myself to make walkers feel welcome. There is little enough trade in this location and being on the Pennine Way has to be an advantage worth grabbing. The landlord is actually a friendly bloke but a bit of a character and maybe he doesn't come across well when you first enter! He prefers walkers to take off their boots before walking on his Axminster (which is not unreasonable when you think of it) and provides boot shelves at the entrance. Fair play to him, but if it was me I would find the money to put in a stone floor area for hikers. Maybe they don't spend a great deal on their first visit but I would want them to come back at some point for some pub grub.It would be a tragedy if this lovely pub was to close, and I recommend you try it out for yourself.Top tip: have a look at the local mill opposite which boasts the largest indoor water wheel in the world at 44 feet in diameter."

We go to the Hare Hounds, Lothersdale most weekends and find it having a friendly atmosphere, comfortable with lovely fires in winter. Food is excellent home made, Go near Christmas and you will enjoy the lovely decorations that we have not seen there equal anywhere else in any pub.

4 of us were cycling on a coast to coast bike ride and stopped at the Hare and Hounds for lunch. With 2 wonderful open fires/wood burners we could not have been made more welcome by either the Landlord, his wife or the other diners. They proudly stated that we were 'in Yorkshire ' and the food and Theakstons bitter went down a treat. They even specialise in rabbit pie and all I would ask is that they consider adding cheese and onion pie to the menu for when I next visit. Thanks a million to you!!

Generous portions of well prepared traditional Pub fare which the whole family enjoyed in the rear beer garden, could not have been more pleasant.Decent ales on tap and a decent bit of sunshine....perfect!.I see that the Landlord doesn't want to have to clean up other people's mud and dog hair mess and who can blame him?....First had a beer here 35 years ago when doing the Pennine Way....not changed a bit and the house rules were the same! . I had the steak and kidney pud which looked like it had been made in a cowboy's hat...absolutely delicious....can't wait to go back!!... The corned beef and onion pie also comes highly recommended.Wont wait as long to go back next time...... Visualizza piatti

We found the Hare Hounds quite by accident whilst out for a drive. A board outside stated that food was served between 12noon and 9pm on Saturdays and Sunday's. It was a chilly day but inside the pub was a lovely roaring fire. There was a good selection on the printed menu and also an extensive specials board. The prices were all very reasonable even for the steaks. We ordered two beef and ale pies. Both came after a short wait, the food and the plates were piping hot, the portion sizes were excellent, veg was served separate and was a selection of peas, carrot and swede mash, beans and tomato. The meal was excellent, very tasty and very filling. The total cost of the meal and drinks came to...

I guess the sign on the door asking walkers to remove their boots before they enter the bar should have given me the clue that this pub was not a good place for walkers. As I was a tired and hungry walker doing the Pennine Way for charity, I didn't have the energy to take my boots off. I decided to perch on one of his completely empty outside tables away from the door to eat my packed lunch and think about whether I wanted to remove my boots for the sake of an orange juice. However the decision was made for me when the landlord appeared at the door and asked me to move on. I got the impression that he lies in wait to be unpleasant to walkers. Can I suggest to him that if he doesn't like walk...

I had a similar experience to a previous reviewer. We were out walking the Pennine Way and got to Lothersdale around lunch time. We had a dog with us and our hearts sank slightly as we read the notices at the door stating that the pub was not welcoming to dogs or people wearing hiking boots. As we were hungry I offered to take my boots off and go in while my friends waited outside. I approached the bar and greeted the man behind the bar with a smile and hello as you do but he didnt react in any way. He just stood there looking at me and not saying a word. Somewhat non-plussed I asked if they were serving food and he managed to direct me towards a menu on a table. This must have required a he... Visualizza piatti

Called here today, 26 Nov 2014, and just as we were going to take our boots of in the doorway, the Landlord called us to come in anyway. No problem with boots he said! The weather was damp after rain, (so were we! he showed us to a large corner table near the roaring open fire and asked what we wanted to drink, a warm welcome indeed! Decked out with Xmas décor, the pub was very inviting and warm, food ordered and drinks brought to the table (3 pints of Blondie, 1 coffee and a large Coke we settled in and chatted to some locals. The beer was on form and we didn't have to wait long for our food, 2 corned beef and onion pie, 1 braised steak, 1 steak and ale pie, all with chips and a large bowl...

Walking The Pennine Way and came across this establishment in Lothersdale and decided to sit outside and have a drink as it was a nice day and dogs are not allowed inside. My wife walked into the foyer of the pub and began reading the myriad of signage warning walkers to either take off their walking boots or put on the overshoes provided fair enough. As she was about to reach for the overshoes a man who I assume to be the Landlord came out and spoke to her in a rather offhand and extremely rude manner informing her to Take off tha ' boots or put tha ' overshoes on . It may have been better for him to have spoken in a much more civil tone something along the lines of Good Afternoon I am sorr...
