"Giving a star is being overly generous, considering from the moment we walked in til we left, utterly appalling. The place was very empty when we arrived but there was not one member of staff about, waited at the bar, looked around and had...to catch the eye of a member of staff to be served. Asked for the breakfast, adults and a bowl. with teas and a fruit juice. Got ourselves seated, had to ask someone to be served once again at the breakfast bar. Had to ask again for beans, got told off for helping myself to mushrooms. There should be staff there to direct me and assist me instead scolding me. Would not pay for the shrivelled and cold mushrooms that I helped myself to. Nor would I pay for the hair found on the bacon. There was no hot water to make myself a cup of tea so had to have coffee once again no one around to ask for hot water. No butter for the toast and no spoons for the hot drinks or the kids bowl breakfast. No welcome, no check back and no way would we return. There are way far better places to have breakfast, which offers a warm welcome and friendly and attentive staff the jug and bottle is not that place."

Had to wait for an hour for our pizza’s watching people come eat and go before our meal was even on the table. When they finally came was informed that our child’s pizza had been burnt and they was cooking another one which came after...we had ate ours and was under cooked we did get the child’s meal refunded but not a great experience

Called in for breakfast today(14th) and,as always, it was first class . My wife and I have tried several Stonehouse pubs and the Jug and Bottle has got to be the best one of them all . We travel from Manchester to Skegness every week and depending on the time of day, we always call in to the Jug and Bottle for either, breakfast or a carvery .Great food, great price and the staff are always friendly .

Vegetarian breakfast? Nope. You can order a sausage which takes around mins to be cooked, no vege bacon.. You pay the same price as a meat eater, and don't even get free mushrooms! The layout of the help yourself drinks and toast is all...wrong, and you are often left queuing whilst your breakfast goes cold. You have to hunt for the butter, and the coffee and boiled water aren't marked...Good luck working out which is which. The milk jug is reluctant to pour at best almost leaving you thinking its empty. Honestly, it's a lovely restaurant...needs to be more considerate of its customers though

We took my elderly mother-in-law for a rare trip out but it turned out to be a disaster! Luckily she had the carvery, which she enjoyed. But myself and her son chose a pizza and burger. We were very patient, but even for us, an...hour later nothing and we were very annoyed. Even after asking the staff, all we got was sorry, we've got staff shortages today' Which I understand is a problem for the Jug Bottle, but should the customer really have to accept this lack of service! THEN, when our food finally came, my chips were uncooked, and the pizza was the wrong one! The right one followed after minutes, but this was RAWE!!!!!!! The jug Bottle were having a really bad day as the couple on the ne...

Whilst the all you can eat breakfast filled a hole (oooh matron), I like others around us were baffled by the extra charge for mushrooms. I paid the extra thinking they were magic mushrooms hence the extra charge, but no, they were regular mushrooms,...a small scoop of regular mushrooms that you can pick up in any reputable supermarket. So you can go pay your fiver, have sausages, a mountain of bacon, enough beans to trigger a MET Office windy weather warning all included.....but if you want some mushrooms, then it will cost you an extra They even give you an extra ticket to give the chef with Mushrooms on, he looks at you and maybe I imagined it but there was a nod of appreciation, this man...

"I've been in Horncastle on business twice once on a Monday, once on a Tuesday and both times found the town mostly closed for business in the evenings. This time, just as I was on the point of deciding people in Lincolnshire must have a tradition of fasting on a Tuesday evening, I came across The Bull. This attractive old coaching hotel looked inviting, and the staff offered me a friendly welcome. The warmly lit, high ceilinged interior of this Georgian inn was full of diners (Yes on a Tuesday! Take note, other restauranteurs of Horncastle) and the ambiance was convivial. The selection of beers behind the bar was good and the two pints I drank were tasty and well kept. I was presented with two bar menus, a separate burger menu and shown a fish menu and a steak menu on the wall. (I understand tapas is also available at weekends). Quite a choice! The bar menus largely consisted of what you might call traditional pub grub of the best kind. Within that massive choice, there must have been at least half a dozen dishes I was really tempted by but, eventually, I plumped for the cauliflower soup followed by the pork belly, mash, peas and apple gravy. Both courses were outstanding and extremely generous in size, especially the pork belly. My only disappointment was that I hadn't room in my distended belly to squeeze in a spotted dick for pudding! My bill, for such a large and excellent meal, was very modest. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at The Bull and would definitely eat and/or drink there again."
