St Mary In The Castle

Lovely staff and the best Haloumi wrap I've had anywhere I reckon. A nice little stop off with interesting music on occasion (not too loud).

If you are in search of a delicious cup of tea, this is the place to visit. The pot was large, filled with Yorkshire tea, and provided enough for me to have three cups and my wife to have two. It was a great pot of tea.

Coffee quality first rate and you get a free biscuit with it. Alas, service is slow and dozy. You wait a very long time and then they deliver the wrong order. Hence a further delay. Only one of the toilets (in a dark corridor upstairs) worked. No warning about this from the staff. Usual rocky table nonsense.

Lovely, quirky, welcoming, the menu is small but perfectly tailored for brunch and enjoying surroundings and friends. Staff more than helpful, food lovely and 3 minutes from the beach. Great utilisation of the church crypt. Given it's location it did not feel tourist-tacky, but a real chill zone for brunch that even Carrie and her three friends would love to use ....

The café is a fantastic little spot. We stopped by twice during our week there. The building could use some renovations, but don't let that deter you. The hospitality was warm, the selection of cakes delicious, and the staff was accommodating and courteous. The music selection varies from the sixties on vinyl to modern on CDs. Give it a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

As a dirty vegan virgin, I didn't know what to expect, but the venue was amazing. We had a well distanced table in the crypt which was very chilled and atmospheric. Our waitress was so friendly and went the extra mile bringing gravy bones (possibly not vegan) and water for our dog. We were so enchanted with the place, it almost didn't matter about the food but it was excellent tasty and fun, with very good sized portions so much that we took away a doggy bag to have another meal at home!

I stopped by this restaurant with my family for a quick snack while on vacation. The staff was very friendly, the food was delicious and healthy, with great vegan and vegetarian options. The restaurant had lots of plants, which added a nice touch and a sustainable ethos. I went back a few days later for a drink and had an equally welcoming experience, even when I accidentally spilled a pint of cider on my wife. They handled it with no fuss. This place is definitely worth a visit and supporting.

I love St Mary in the Castle for lots of reasons but I DO NOT LOVE UNNECESSARY PLASTIC WASTE! Every delicious 'free ' biscuit that comes with your hot drink comes individually wrapped. That 's hundreds of plastic wrappers every day. When some customers won 't eat it and others wouldn 't have if asked if they wanted one because they 're buying a ruddy cake anyway!! If you want to satisfy all your customers, (and you 're giving away vegan biscuits so I 'm assuming you 're aware of current trends and hot topics), bear in mind that many of us aren 't comfortable with single use, non recyclable plastic being used without even asking first.

Having been used to receiving an unopened and generous packet of biscuits with an okay cup of coffee on many previous visits I have, on two recent occasions, queried why we are now served a single biscuit. I've explained that such an offering offers customers no guarantee that the biscuit has not been offered to, and discarded by, previous customers. On my last but one visit the server understood my logic and returned with an unopened packet. This time, and it has elicited this poor rating, the young waiter seemed clueless about the need to ensure basic customer satisfaction and did not offer an unopened packet, but five minutes later brought an unopened packet with coffee to the table next...
