"After a long drive returning from Alston to our home in Skipton we planned to stop at a certain pub. Sadly on arrival it did not live up its billing and certainly was not somewhere we would stop So faced with this dilemma and realising...many places would be fully booked we thought best to get back near home and hopefully find a supermarket for ready meal I realised that we would be passing the Bolton Arms and having stopped there a couple of times for a drink decided to see if we could get a table The young staff could not have been more helpful and whilst they apologised for the table being next to the bar for us it was perfect in the centre of thins rather than on the edge The menu whilst not extensive was very well thought out offering pub classics and something along the lines of fine dining in fact something for everyone We had the pie which with some well chosen and cooked vegetables was excellent. For pudding although nearly full from the pie we opted to share the sticky toffee pudding an inspired choice as it was nearly a complete meal on its own Thus from a near disaster to a great meal we left very pleased knowing we would return"

We ate dinner recently on a Saturday evening. The ambience was friendly and there was a good menu with plenty of choice. Service was good and our food delicious. A lovely country pub worth travelling to.

Stopped here for one night the staff were very friendly, such a homely place with fantastic homemade food. Room was a lot better than I expected, for such an old building the rooms are modern with a powerful shower. Would highly recommend

Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the food quality at this restaurant. I ordered the pork belly for my starter and found it to be very bland. For my main course, I chose the fish crumble, which also lacked flavor. My husband ordered the pork dish, which was essentially just a large slab of tasteless meat on his plate. The only redeeming aspect of the meal was the tasty chips.

The Bolton Arms is a beautiful place to stay! We had a warm welcome and our room was lovely….like home from home! Landlord staff are very friendly…. Great location spectacular views from the garden at the back! We ate in the restaurant ..there is a good menu special choices. Food was delicious. Breakfast is ‘hearty’ with a good selection of choice for all…. Thank you for a beautiful relaxing stay! We will be back…. Natalie Mark

We just had an overnight stay in this lovely pub, with another couple of friends ,we hadn’t seen for a couple of years. We stayed in room with a lovely clean comfy bed, slept like a log!We all had the evening meal, rather a long wait, boy, was it...worth it.I thought I had a good appetite but my meal would have been enough for Tasty and cooked to perfection,oh,and the beer was good too. All in all, an enjoyable experience Thankyou to the really friendly staff.

We arrived on Friday night and checked in to our room with Gertie the sheep, which was well-organized and cozy. We didn't have dinner while we were babysitting, but we made it back in time for a quick drink with the host and a friendly local couple who made us feel very welcome. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I slept well, even though it was a small bed. Once we figured out how to keep the shower temperature stable, it was quite nice. The breakfast buffet had everything we needed and was a great value for the price. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back.

I have eaten at The Bolton Arms on a number of occasions over the years and have always enjoyed their food; for the rest of my family this was their first visit. We ate in the airy conservatory and service was friendly and prompt. Our...prawn cocktail and pork belly starters were good. Responses to the main courses however were mixed. The salmon, lamb and steak and kidney were successes, but the cod was overcooked and the chips not the best. Similarly the desserts though plentiful in amount were slightly short on quality. Past experiences have been better, but we were generally happy overall.

We stayed at this restaurant for one night, arriving at lunchtime after a long journey. The staff warmly welcomed us and showed us to our lovely room. We enjoyed a nice and reasonably priced lunch and a pint at the bar. Since we didn't plan on driving anymore that day, we inquired about local walks and were pleased to hear about a footpath behind the pub that offered stunning views of Swaledale and plenty of sheep. The pub is located in a peaceful hamlet and we had a great evening meal in the restaurant. We ended the night by having a few drinks with the hosts and staff in the bar. It's a great place to stay and just a short drive away from the rest of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Highly r...

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
