"This is a lovely old country pub full of character and friendly people but I 'm afraid I can 't say the same about the food. We had a roast dinner there last Summer which was probably the worst roast we have had and said we wouldn 't eat there again. But we were invited by friends to join them for dinner and we didn 't want to say no. But I wish we had as it was very poor yet again. We both had the steak and ale pie. The meat was dry, no gravy in the pie, doubt if had any ale in it . . . and potatoes??? A jug of 'gravy ' was served with it which just tasted like cheap gravy granules added to water and a few token frozen chips . . . rubbish!!!"

A fabulous village pub. Great character and very friendly atmosphere. Landlord and staff very accommodating. Good pub menu at reasonable prices. Coos selection of ale and cider. Well behaved dog friendly.

on Sunday for a roast beautiful, and also I could get a takeaway roast for my sick mother, which they really enjoyed great hospitable native with us and great camein we go back to try the evening...Mals and events more in the future

We live in Gunnislake and took visiting family here. The food has always been good. The service is friendly. This pub is the heart of the village where locals meet regularly and visitors are always welcome. This is how an English pub should be

Hard to find the location and accessing the car park isnt easy to start with, after a few drinks a challenge, need to trim the hedges to make it easier to leave the premises. Good food and decent portion sizes, can’t complain great value for money and full of locals on quiz night fun location. Be great in the summer sitting out side.

If you're looking for a place where everybody knows your name, this is it. We decided to try this restaurant for Sunday lunch and were greeted by a very friendly staff. The food was delicious, with plenty of vegetables and meat that tasted great. The red cabbage and cheese sauce were particularly impressive. We definitely plan on coming back again.

This pub embodies everything a traditional pub should be. I met a friend from out of town for lunch and chose the Rising Sun based on recommendations from TripAdvisor. It was the perfect choice - cozy, welcoming, and inviting. The menu was excellent and the beer selection was top-notch. I only wish this gem was located closer to my home in North Cornwall, but I will definitely be returning in the future.

I arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon after they had stopped serving food at 3pm. Hoping to have a tea, snacks, or maybe a local ale, I entered and waited for a server to acknowledge me. Unfortunately, I was ignored and decided to move outside to their cozy outdoor patio. Despite not being greeted by any servers during my time there, I stayed for about an hour or two. Eventually, I left feeling as though they did not want my business.
