"Our party of 3 were handed crumpled lunch menus and though I requested a wine menu apparently there isn't one. I asked what was available and from the three first mentioned chose a Rioja at £21. It was acceptable. I chose a 16 oz rump steak. On being asked how I wanted it cooked I suggested that the chef would know how best to cook his product and that this would be ok with me. I was met with a blank stare. After two more tries I was told I had to choose myself so chose medium rare. When it arrived weighing no more than 10 oz, gristly and rather thin, it was dry and cooked hugely beyond well done. I can honestly say this was the worst attempt at a steak I can recall. My fellow diners restrained my desire to complain even though their meals (a steak pie and a thai red curry) were mediocre. No one bothered to ask if our food was ok. After a coffee we left. I am surprised that this place is still trading."

"Arrived 4-45 on a 18/11/22 without booking got a table for 2. Very pleasant attentive staff. Drinks order taken delivered promptly even though they where very busy. 3 different menus to choose from we choose 2 courses for 12-95 or 3 courses for £15 -95. Starts mains ordered. After a short wait starters arrive nicely presented, well prepared very tasty. Mains arrived after a short wait after finishing starters everything is freshly prepared cooked so a short wait is good. Main courses where nicely cooked very nicely presented. Everything was very nice tasty. We found space for a desert each they where both very tasty. A great meal in nice surroundings, pleasant attentive staff. Great value for money. This is available 12 till 5."

"This lovely little hidden gem in the middle of a quaint village is the hive of community get together as selling gastro pub meals at affordable, competitive prices and variety of alcohol and soft drinks. They also have a carvery on a Wednesday and a light bite menu which is great for people who do not have as big an appetite. I have attended as a sole diner on a lunch or with friends or with my daughter. The light bite menu suits us and so can highly recommend the chicken fajita, corned beef pie, tuna melt is to die for, the flatbread of the day is also a sure winner as is the sausage and mash and mince and dumplings. They are perfectly cooked and well portioned sizes even for lunch. On an evening I have been with family and friends and for occasions and it is always a happy, buzzing, ambient atmosphere. The staff are so welcoming and though it is extremely busy, they are always friendly and cannot do enough to make your dining experience as wonderful as can be with meals served in a timely manner. Family favourites are definitely the sizzlers. Though the steaks sre cooked to perfection and speciality hamburgers are also sure fire winners too. For fish lovers, there is always plenty of choice, the salmon in specials was truly mouthwatering. Unfortunately I cannot comment about the puddings as I am always far too full to enjoy a desert but happily have a nice coffee which is served with a biscuit and a smile. Whilst drinks are generally paid for and you have to take to the table, the meals are table service. For those who are disabled and have mobility issues, the friendly accommodating staff will do their utmost to make things easier for you. Tables by the door, disabled toilet to be used with disabled key or one will be provided. Full table service for drinks including meals if disabled person is not easy to stand for so long. Nothing is ever a bother and the food is nothing less than hot when served and absolutely delicious!"

"First time ordering from here tonight, got a large donner meat and chips and when it arrived I was blown away by the size of it normally you get next to no difference in sizes at other places but this was unreal, food was piping hot when it arrived and tasted great! "Fantastic culinary experience……… My wife and I, along with our dear friends visited The County restaurant, 13 The Green, Aycliffe Village, County Durham today, Saturday the 19th of March 2022). As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by a lovely waitress/ hostess called Claire. She showed us to our table , gave us some menus and took our drinks order. We all chose different starters and mains. Kieran, our waiter, brought our meals and we were not disappointed. Why?, because: 1) The food was well presented 2) The plates were red hot 3) The food was piping hot 4) The food was excellent, tasty and plentiful 5) The waiter/waitress Claire and Kieran) were super friendly, polite and professional, nothing was too much trouble. 6) The pub/restaurant was spotless, warm and inviting. A truly fantastic culinary experience. Well done to all at The County restaurant."
