"If you could capture the delightful charm and unique atmosphere of Rye in a bottle, you would find it at the Ypres Castle Inn. This establishment strikes a perfect balance between traditional pub vibes and a modern drinking spot. As you cozy up by the roaring fire, you can indulge in a contemporary sour beer or pale ale, accompanied by locally sourced pork pie or Perello olives for a snack. On chilly evenings, there are plenty of cozy corners to settle into with a good book, while warm summer days can be enjoyed in the spacious garden overlooking the marshes. Jeff, the hospitable host, is always ready to chat and ensure your glass is never empty. We have returned for a second visit and highly recommend this spot to others. Pro tip: Take the stairs down from the church to reach the inn directly - no need to rely on Google maps here. 5/5, a must-visit destination."

Warm atmosphere, intimate and cozy. Good German beer selection and the red wine was good. Perfect for pre dinner or relaxing in the afternoon or evening with couples and friends

I had heard great things about this pub, but I was disappointed when I visited last night. It was cold and wet, and there was no real fire going. The Long Man beer tasted tired and the Budvar glass was filled to the brim and pretty flat. I learned that you have to request the 'Czech pour', which was disappointing. I assume Mr. B was not there.

Disgustingly rude team and owner who 'd rather than be polite or have an understanding of the meaning of the word hospitality would rather insult, bully and jeer customers out of the pub in front of other customers. Avoid at all costs and shame on the owner and all of the team of this establishment you should be ashamed of your behaviour and think about how cowardly you behaved and we certainly never deserved the way you treated us so publicly.

This charming old pub seems to cater mainly to tourists. The interior is clean with plenty of seating options. The drink prices are fair. Unfortunately, the large beer garden was closed due to being waterlogged on the day we visited. While they don't serve hot food as they're not a restaurant, we did enjoy a tasty pork pie. It's worth noting that this is a cashless bar, which may not be suitable for everyone. The pub is also not open every day.

The place was awful. Ok if you just want a drinking den, I’m all for it. But the two staff, one young man and one young lady couldn’t have been more unfriendly or unhelpful had they been trying to. I guess they were both naturally this way. The guy was trying to hide a pint he was drinking from view from where we were sitting. Whether this from his colleague or another drinker I’ve no idea! The establishment reeked of dogs, more of whom were seated at chairs and benches than their human companions! No body wanted to move a mutt so as we could take a seat. Why we even stayed for one ? To be honest I needed the loo. Wish I’d have waited. Avoid. Spoils a lovely town with great history.
