"We were out looking for a nice evening meal and walked by TGFR’s large front window for the carry out part of the restaurant. It was hopping. We noticed that there was a sit down part of the restaurant right next to it but not connected. We looked in and there was only one table open and we did not have bookings: no problem, they said to take that table. It was only once we were inside that we noticed there is another section of dining upstairs. It is a small place that runs like clockwork. We both have food allergies: no problem. We had the smoked salmon trio without the pate, broiled halibut and hake with the chips and rocket. Cooked perfectly. Asked the waiter to bring a nice mellow whisky because I am not familiar with all the local options and it was also excellent. The wait staff were well organized and worked well together. Our waiter was top notch.I would not hesitate to recommend this compact restaurant for an oversized amount of satisfaction."

Moist flaky white fish. Scampies were good too. Take away as the restaurant was full. But good food none the less

10 days around the highlands, at least 5 or 6 fish n chips, and our hake and chips here was the best of them all ! And this included some fish n chips at fancy restaurants !

soggy chips, average fish. the superb taste of everything was the oil in which it was cooked. disappointment, we have better and cheaper fish and chips in de landlocked leicestershire.

Amazing food and fantastic service. All of the staff were welcoming and very friendly. Great atmosphere. The dining area was spotlessly clean. Quick and attentive service. Highly recommend.

This review for the chip shop only as didn’t eat in the restaurant. The fish and batter tasted amazing as did the haggis. Am aware there are at least another 2 chip shops in Oban but would happily eat here again and again.

Rude and obnoxious little man who does not want to oblige his customers only wants your money!! Seen a fish in a small box someone was eating in the shop but it was dark brown and full of grease the woman grimaced when I looked at her, I asked owner if he could serve mine but drain it first? His answer was you get what you get so I spoke with my feet straight back out the shop. Not my or my families custom for sure. Astronomical price for fish chips and peas £17.00 or so.Greed!!!

in the restaurant divorced, was said that we cannot access the seats on the upper floor. very small space in the ground floor, so would not say that it is accessible at all for families, wheelchairs or children's cars. eating was cooked to a high standard, tasty but very expensive compared to other places with budget options. the waitress who served us, took up our tellers to clean the table without asking us if we were done. she gave the impression, she didn't like her job. the service was average, the atmosphere was somewhat unpleasant, no feeling of hospitality or engagement with customers.

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
