"We booked a table outside one and a half weeks prior to our reservation which was meant to be on 26th May. When we arrived for our table, we could see our name on a reserved sign on a table outside but the table was in the corner with no chairs and no space for us to sit. We went inside to ask someone about our table and they told us they don’t reserve tables outside and this reservation was taken by mistake by a new member of staff. We appreciate mistakes happen but the waitress didn’t make an attempt to rectify this, instead she told us we could wait for twenty minutes until somebody left their table. It was our anniversary and a Friday night so we didn’t really want to just stand and wait given we had booked a table for a certain time. We ended up leaving to go somewhere else as honestly the service and the way this was dealt with was shocking. Ultimately it’s their mistake not ours, yet we were left standing in the street waiting for what ended up being no table and us having to go elsewhere. Shocking customer service and as locals and regulars we will not be returning."

Another excellent lunch at this Restaurant. Obviously very popular deservedly so. Will be back yet again shortly. The wine list is good value too.

We were recommended by our host to eat here. He was right, excellent French food and service! It was so good that we ate there twice during our stay.

We had the set lunch menu. Prawns, duck and some cheese to follow all accompanied by some nice wine. The wine list was good, the food and service were excellent.

The food was fine, but the service was the worst ever. The waitress ignored us for 20 minutes while she talked with another couple. When we told her that and asked for the bill she started arguing with us. We had to get up and get the bill from someone else. Worst service ever!

The sharing board was fantastic, with a wide selection of wines to choose from. The service was excellent and the venue was lovely. I dined with my two adult children, one of whom is a wine expert and was impressed with the selection and quality of the wines. We will definitely be returning.

This restaurant is perfect for dining out with friends. Start with drinks in the charming bar downstairs before heading up to the restaurant for delicious food and affordable wine. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is great, located right in the heart of the city. Definitely recommend a visit.

Wonderful venue for celebrating with a group of friends. I make the upstairs restaurant a regular on every visit to the city. I selected the veal terrine and a very hearty and substantial beef bourguinon. Excellent meal and service. Table companions were similarly pleased with their menu selections. We adjourned later to the ground level bar with its excellent choice of wines and beers.

A lovely French Restaurant. A good range of dining options on the menu. Prices, although not cheap, were OK, bearing in mind the quality of the meal. The food was beautifully presented , service was friendly and quick, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. An added bonus, our youthful French waitress pronounced, 'Glenmorangie ' properly when we had our after meal drinks. Not a common occurrence in the Central Belt.

The food at this restaurant is always top-notch and served hot. The black pudding and haggis starter was particularly outstanding. While the lamb main course was good, it was a bit too rare for my taste. The chef easily accommodated my request to substitute pasta for mashed potatoes and greens. The sea bream was cooked perfectly and paired well with the vegetables and potatoes. The sticky toffee pudding was as delicious as always, and the creme brûlée was just as impressive. The staff are consistently friendly and helpful, making for a great dining experience.

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
