"Our second time at the Wellington Inn! Last time we were there was for my Aunties birthday which was absolutely spectacular and great rooms to stay over. This time we went for a meal in the bar, which is dog friendly. Views there are amazing and the waiting staff are great! Food was pub standard and the puddings were our favourite part of the meal. "This was a celebratory dinner as my two grown up children both have their birthdays in December, and we were able to have a family meal together at this lovely restaurant. The weather was filthy. Dense fog on the drive their accompanied by what Peter Kay would call ‘that fine rain that soaks you through’. Mercifully on this evening before Christmas Eve there was no other traffic on the narrow lanes that form the way there. Once inside, there is a warm welcoming glow and friendly greetings. We had a cosy table for 5 in an alcove in the main bar. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy, but there was a gentle buzz to the atmosphere. Service was prompt, but they ran out of alcohol free beer after the first one. Bit short sighted that, in the run up to Christmas, and given the location of the pub most patrons will need to get there by car. To the food, the starters seemed to be universally well received by all of us. Mine was superb, and the roast cauliflower and cauliflower purée to accompany perfectly prepared scallops was judged just right. There was a lot going on with the garnish too, but everything was done with a light touch. Two of our number opted for the ‘Christmas lunch’ and the feedback, it was ok but not exceptional. The turkey was dry, and the roast potatoes tasted like they had been hanging around for a while. This is not unusual for pub grub, but the Trimble Inn bills itself on a higher plane that that, with prices to match, so must go into the category of ‘could do better’. I opted for the steak, which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by the reliable fare of fries, mushroom, tomato and onion rings. It was very tasty, but didn’t justify a price of £33 for a 7oz steak. It was very good, but £25 would have been a more appropriate price for food like this. The service was excellent, and we even had a wireless buzzer on the table which enabled us to call for the waiting team, and the bill when we were ready. So all in all it had been a good evening, we left happy, but with slight mixed feelings about the quality of some of the food. All credit to the restaurant for having a full vegetarian menu, and the opportunity to mix and match between this and the main one. None of us is a vegetarian but it is good to have the choice when a Christmas meat-fest is in prospect."

"not write in the rule one for critique, but simply here for an impromptu lunch on the way to home from a weekend. so a secret, quirky pub in the inner, and we received a beautiful (and real) welcome. eating is very cheap, and the top of the bark was perfectly cooked. dinner was absolutely beautiful and I can't recommend it enough. the only negatiw I can find (and really, really, to do this) would it be pretty nice to have background music? but after we have said that we are looking in the booking to stay here in the future, so this was not a big problem!"

"Called in here after a walk around Fewston reservoir, and it was fantastic. It looks great from the outside and doesn't disappoint inside, it's a proper pub. I was fascinated by the history and the ladies behind the bar were knowledgeable about it. The original 18th century part is well maintained and large extension to the rear is well within keeping of the original style. There are some fantastic old photos on the wall too, well worth a look. Called in with my young family and the staff were really friendly and accommodating for my young family. The menu is perfect, exactly what you'd want from a British Pub, not trying to be anything it isn't and missing the mark but doing good British pub food. It delivered too! Food arrived quickly which was helpful with impatient little ones. The steak pie was incredible, big portion, full of tender meat and rich gravy. My wife had fish cakes which she said were really good, and kids were happy with theirs. Nice choice of beers too, Timothy Taylor's enough said, went perfectly with steak pie. It was also really pleasantly surprising in a pub like this to have such forward thinking baby changing options; separate toilet just for this, with creams, wipes etc provided in case you didn't have your own. Left very satisfied and looking forward to returning soon. Well done to all staff, and don't change or lose the fantastic identify and product you have that so many others don't."

"Visited many times over the years and this now Seams to be struggling in the wrong direct,although pleasant enough staff the quality presentation and range is expensive for what is it and the taste is mediocre I visited on a cold wet and windy day which may help to explain many things but not again on a hurry Saying that, with a few tweeks and looking at of from the outside from an objective point this place could be amazing again…baby steps !"
