"we called to lunch on the way to our holiday for a weekend away. the personal was attentive, polite and honest. the menu for lunch was roast meat sandwiches and chips, which can see some as limited, perfect for us and eating that came to the table was excellent. absolutely delicious and good value. the pub was pleasantly busy for a Saturday on the afternoon and we enjoyed our time there. while we let in our vacation (churnet reach, which we highly recommend also) we read that many people dine on the boat in the evening and there was no bad word for the place to say. well done."

Popped in for a look as it has recently been taken over by new landlords. Had lunch. Value for money.

I was for an evening meal, eating was by far the most tasty thing I had in one. a good feeling for the place when they go through the door. in any case to visit me as a native. it feels a very safer place for women to drink alone in. many thanks.

Loved this place. We dropped in for coffee then returned for lunch. We sat outside overlooking the canal only a minutes walk from the Churnet Valley Railway. The food was beautiful and the owners were really welcoming. Dog friendly and dog bowls at nearly every table outside. Give it a try.

Lovely country pub with great service called in after a lovely walk along the canal for a coffee as did many others only to find out they only serve instant coffee?? I think they would improve on business with a nice coffee machine to make latte cappuccino and frothy hot chocolate plus Thai latte??

Been at 5pm on mother's day. With daughter. Son in law and baby ivy. First time they have done evening food. The steak was amazing. I couldn't finish my meal. Chips are definitely not frozen. Tripled fried. Beautiful. Salad.. would have liked a bit of onion and cucumber. . Keep it up guys. Well done

they were at the opening night of the boat inn. a family-run pub, with an amazing renter and landlady duo. felt immediately welcomed by them and received excellent service with a smile. also greeted children. the pub is clean, fresh and home. in any case the natives they want on their doorstep. I can't wait for my next visit, especially since they will serve as well.

5 stars for extraordinary character that is absolutely my place. my own pub has been off unexpectedly 5 years ago and we all miss it so much. then, tonight, I'll come over this most excellent place while I plan a 2023 holiday. at my next visit to Great Britain we have plans to visit. they are all so happy to have so wonderful and welcoming pub to enjoy their time. I would love a house built similar to this architecture. for those who are native and regular, they know that they live at an exquisite place. I hope to break down one day. remain safe and healthy. jim arkansas, usa

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
