"This review is strictly on the afternoon tea experience only. The food was absolutely wonderful, the lady who served food and the male staff (presumed the owner) were both very kind and friendly. I felt that the afternoon tea was an absolute treat since there was nothing to fault with, that was only until it was ruined by the rude woman who was driving past in black 4x4 (presumed female host). After we finished the afternoon tea, I decided to let my dog out from our car to let him stretch his legs before we set off, the rude woman mentioned above asked me if I was looking for a public footpath so I answered no. She then started to lecture me about the ‘no dog policy’ in the property as well as pointing a direction to the public footpath I did not ask. She drove further towards the car park and parked there, got out of her, and started to tell me off in the most rude way possible again. I explained that we just had an afternoon tea here and we’re about to leave. She then turned around started to take stuff out of her boot mumbling loud “stupid..blah blah” in the angry tone, which by the way was clear for me to hear even though I was at least a few feet away from her. I was so bewildered and frustrated at how this perfectly lovely experience went down the hill like this si quickly. Hence I took two stars off even though I did enjoy the food here. Whoever that woman was, please make sure that they cannot behave that way to a guest."

"A gem of a bar in Windermere! My husband and i visited this bar on the last night of our long weekend away. We had a gorgeous Italian sharing platter and cocktails and ended up staying until late and getting more food for dinner! The quality of food and drink is excellent and the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service made our visit all the more enjoyable. It was lovely to sit and enjoy our time there without feeling rushed, hence why we decided to stay for most of oir evening : Would also recommend happy hour from 4:30-6pm. "We’re definitely heading back tomorrow! My friend and I were craving Italian food and stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant just a short walk from our hotel. Our cravings were more than satisfied. We started with a sensational garlic pizza bread, which was simply fantastic. For the main course, my friend had a delicious creamy salmon dish, while I indulged in a mouthwatering pasta with Italian sausage and salami. To top it off, we enjoyed one of the best desserts I've ever had—the screamberry cheesecake. Everything was fresh, well-balanced, and superb, enhanced by the exceptionally friendly and efficient service. We still have a few days left in the Lake District, and we've already booked a table for another visit!"

San Pietro Windermere

"We had booked a table for 4 at San Pietro tonight for 6.30pm. As we walked in they had given our table to some regulars. They asked us to wait outside in the cold with two children. I asked how long, and was told it would be half an hour. We said we would come back if our table would be ready. When we came back they looked surprised and tried to make a makeshift table for 4 right by the front door in front of the bar. This table was clearly not suitable with the main door opening right upon our ‘makeshift’ set up. When I asked what had happened to our table, the waiter mumbled something inaudible. I would have had more respect for the staff, if they had just apologised from the start and explained that they had given our table away to some regular diners, meaning we could have fed our children earlier at a more considerate establishment. At no time did any staff apologise to us, for giving our table away. Avoid this place at all cost. We did go to Tapios Tapas the first night in Windermere and the food was great and so was the service and very reasonably priced. We went to Hooked Seafood on the second night and the food was amazing. The soft shell crab starter and sea bass main with a nice bottle of Picpoul de Pinet were superb. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. You should go to either of them before San Pietro."

"This felt like such a treat. The service is impeccable, I felt unworthy of the treatment! Beautiful flavours in the food – my mouth is watering reminiscing! I had a prawn and mussel curry which was incredible and with a generous portion of prawns and mussels. Unfortunately there was some grit in the mussels, however the feedback was received amicably and without issue. Gilpin Spice kindly offered us two free desserts on the house; we shared a mango mousse which was delicious. The interior of the restaurant was stunning, exquisite details and such a warmth at the counter seating. I will say the lighting in the room we were in was quite cold and bright, which on a dark evening is not ideal. I say this a devoted advocate to warm lighting. We were pleasantly surprised when the bill arrived; we had been preparing for an eye-watering sum but were happy to pay for what we had had."
