"We come here quite often and as we had friends visiting we came on the Saturday and Sunday. Food was amazing as always but disappointed there was some discrepancy between the menu and the kitchen waiting staff for allergy information. Some things on the menu said no dairy ingredients but got differing information from the waiter and kitchen. The waiter even made us feel like an inconvenience and a nuisance for checking items that arrived with our meal that seemed certain to have dairy in them, which upon checking with the kitchen they did. He took it away to be changed but he may of well thrown it at us when he brought the replacement : The waitress on Saturday was friendly, accommodating and knowledgable. The waiter needs to take a leaf out of her book! He changed his manner and attitude when it came to paying the bill, was chatty and couldn’t do enough, obviously wanted a tip, he was left wanting. Overall, lovely pub and food, just please make sure your menu is correct and staff are clued up on allergies. It makes such a massive difference, and a more pleasant experience when you aren’t ill after eating :"

We both had a lovely Thai lunch followed by a few vodkas, I would highly recommend the food and the staff are also lovely especially the manager Lilly.

Great menu selection and a very well stocked bar. The staff are amazingly helpful and the service is excellent. I opted for the traditional Sunday roast beef lunch and it didn’t disappoint as my picture shows.

Never seen a pub this busy before. A warm welcome and service. Broad menu of Thai and English food. Easy to find but tje car park is small so parkng on the ropad might be preferrable. This is a country pub and is very busy, would visit again.

The Thai food in the pub is amazing and the best we have had for a long time. It’s great to have such a good take away locally. It’s a shame that inside the pub the lighting is not very conducive to a good atmosphere, especially in the back room. Well done chef

very good local and not just pub restaurant. I have enjoyed many nights. inside and outside offers very good food and drinks. it offers various entertainments between board games, sporting events on a projector, music and friendly staff. well located, right outside an inner city and the main street it is easy to reach from basingstoke, reading and the surrounding areas. an option is also public transport via bus, but only suggested during the day. I want to be back and have fun.

had taken Thai food last night and it was absolutely fantastic. this pub is only 5 minutes away from my doorstep, and I have purposed to give it an attempt for old, and now it will be a regular 'go to'. Thai food is very authentic, except when it is cut off to heat, compared to the same dishes served in Thailand. I have absolutely no problem with it, because it makes eating pleasant for people who 't have a good tolerance for spices, and they can ask to increase the heat if they want this authentic Thai flavor. what makes the Thai food exceptional here is the use of fresh Thai herbs and an understanding of the balance of aromen that make authentic Thai food so wonderful. we will be back for...

"Our first visit. We cannot praise thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason Sheila. We will be back, soon."
