"I found myself here alone and in need of a meal. I ordered at the bar, where the member of staff that served me was enthusiastic, friendly, respectful and very helpful. The food arrived after not to long a wait. The steak was cooked beautifully and had a really good char-grilled flavour. The large public bar is broken up by floor to ceiling bookshelves full of old hardbacks, creating a calm and interesting ambiance that I found rather pleasant. All in all, a 4 experience. The only reason I withhold the 5th is that I generally prefer restaurants to pubs and the birthday party at the next table was a bit loud. Regardless of that, Chieftain... I will be back!"

"This is a lovely pub with a clean and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly, and the lunch I had was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it, especially for dog owners!"

We found it interesting to visit the Chieftain, as we used to go there frequently before it changed ownership. The layout is quite similar to what we remember, but we really missed the friendly staff we had gotten to know. The portion sizes were just enough, though the dessert portion (lemon meringue) was disappointingly small. We genuinely hope the pub thrives in the future.

I had the Christmas lunch and I have to say, the starter was decent, but the main course was very disappointing. The turkey was cooked with garlic, and when I asked for more gravy, it took me asking four different people before I finally received it. The vegetables were cold when they arrived. The dessert was alright, but overall, I left feeling quite dissatisfied. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4 Visualizza piatti

Saw it on Google and decided to try it, wanted to order a beef burger but unfortunately they have ran out, so I ordered the Chicken burger instead as one of the recommendations from the bar staff, it was surprisingly good. The fries with it were also good. I wish the alcohol was slightly cheaper, but I do understand its a pub, the staff were really nice and friendly as well. Will come back in the future to get the beef burger when it's less busy. Price per person: £10–20

We visited The Chieftain for the Queen's Jubilee, and we ended up staying all afternoon until it concluded. It was such a lovely pub with a fantastic atmosphere, and the staff were wonderful. The manager was incredibly helpful. There was live music, and various stalls offered delicious cakes, books, jewelry, and handmade cards. Two talented young women played live music outside, and after enjoying some great food, we relaxed before a DJ took over in the evening. It turned out to be a wonderful day. Thank you so much— we'll definitely be back!

"A slightly bizarre experience we were welcomed warmly, taken to our table, and given a menu for pre dinner drinks. No food menus were brought. We ordered drinks, which arrived, but still no menus! So we asked for them. No wine list brought. So we asked for one. All rather odd. The starters were mixed a bland crab risotto, a rather vinegary tartare, an excellent parfait and a crispy egg which needed to be runnier, but was tasty, if too salty. The odd service continued: three of the four of us had finished do the waiter cleared our plates including the one of our friend who hadn’t finished, who was left holding a cracker in her hand! The mains were again mixed and generally over salty. The ravioli were excellent; the steak good but in a sauce which was heavy handed on the seasoning, the fish pleasant, again slightly salty and verging on the overcooked. We had chocolate soufflé for pudding generally well made and tasty, but again the service was odd an ice cream was pushed into it at the table by the waiter which caused a good amount of soufflé to fall inelegantly onto the serving plate; the cheese plate was an interesting but small selection of well kept cheese. Good petit fours (though we were surprised that one containing nuts was offered to us all despite one of us not eating nuts, which we had mentioned). So probably four stars over all, but only just. It’s good to see the restaurant open again but based on this experience, while it’s fine dining, it’s got some way to go to reach the standard of cooking I’m sure they’d like to aspire to."
