L'Escale du Somail - Menu

There are a few restaurants close to each other in this town and after checking them we chose this one to be the one. Nice menu, good service and good food! We went back there because we liked it so much!

The food is fantastic we have eaten in three restaurants in this small village. This is the friendliest offers the best service and the food is great. I find the other main two restaurants too reliant on location, poor service and average food. We will definitely be back next year

We loved this place. The outside patio of this restaurant is very welcoming. The young waitress did a fantastic job although it was crowded. The food was very good. We were a party of 4 and ordered 4 different dishes which were all very tasty. It is a modern restaurant and the owner made a good job with the decoration. Best restaurant in Le Somail.

Discovered this restaurant for the first time this year. We loved it so much we’ve been back several times over the summer for both lunch and dinner. The food is always perfectly cooked and the setting with the canal in the background is lovely. In...the current climate we always felt safe. The staff always wore their masks correctly, unlike many other establishments! We will be back next year..... can’t wait

Upmarket food, upmarket service(!!!) but lots of wasps and flies to accompany us. Setting is very nice , quality of food good but choices are very limited and we had hard time finding something we liked . The €21 menu had only two choices for each course none of which appealed and the next one up was not much better. We ended up with one course from a la carte ...duck was €18. There was an ice cream parlour attached which looked interesting.Would not go back

Newly opened restaurant by the canal du midi. Menus 21€ and 26 €. We had the 21€ menu and had a choice of 2 for each course, squid or steak for main. The food was very good but not outstanding. The menu will change every 3 months. Service was attentive though the waiter insisted on speaking French to us which was not necessary. I would advise wearing layers as the was a chilly breeze from the canal. Cushions for the chairs would be a good idea but it is very early days. We will certainly return though !

This restaurant is new this year and I have been twice, once eating outside and once inside. It is more expensive than other restaurants in Le Somail but has a higher level of gastronomy. Service is good and attentive, quality of food is excellent and well presented with a good wine list. I have had fish and meat, both were of excellent quality and expertly cooked. I think it is debatable if the extra expense compared to its main rival on the same side of the canal is worth it. It is somewhere I will most likely revisit a few times over the summer.

Seems nothing changes at Le Somail which we have visited many times over the years, the book shop and the floating “epicerie” are a delight. Pleased to note however, that at our favourite restaurant L’escale the menu DOES change and also extra outside seating areas...have recently been added for drinking an aperitif and plenty of outside tables. This week my husband had the bavette on the Plat du Jour and I chose the baked salmon served with asparagus risotto from the main menu. We both chose the excellent cafe gourmand for dessert. Service is friendly and professional and the place seems to be as popular with the French as with tourists. It never disappoints.

We were travelling along the canal du midi on a barge and having stopped over in Le Somail already on our trip, and eaten at the L'O a la Bouche which was very good, we decided to try this restaurant on our second stop - what a great choice! The garden setting was gorgeous and the food excellent. My husband and I had the crab starter which was one of the best starters we have ever tasted. And along with our friends we all agreed that the chocolate desert was yummy. The restaurant was busy, but the service was good, and the waiter friendly and helpful. There was live music playing all evening, with a singer and a guitar player, which was lovely in the background and not intrusive at all and t...
