"Didn't stay here, as live locally. We went for dinner. Food drinks: We went to try the Taster Menu as I'd heard good things about the restaurant. The online menu looked really interesting so I booked. The refurbishment of the restaurant is very well done. Well spaced tables and lovely and warm too. Everything about our dinner was exemplary. I can't praise the food highly enough. Our request for a change of one starter resulted in a specially made langoustine and vegetable creation in a broth, quite stunning to eat! The whole menu was a delight and portions are ample and not too small as in some restaurants that have taster menus. The staff are very well trained, efficient and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The head sommelier is knowledgeable about all the wines and offered us a red wine not on the list which was very unusual and really well matched to the meat courses. We spent a superb evening in very pleasant surroundings. It's safe to say that this restaurant is the most accomplished in the Colchester area. We are very pleased to have found it as it's not far away! Our previous favourite is in Norwich, which involves staying overnight, so we save on hotels and petrol! This is a genuine fine dining establishment, so price reflects this. The quality of the produce used is very high, so we're happy to pay for this. We'll be returning regularly as the menus change frequently, another plus point. The chef is very creative and imaginative in his use of ingredients and obviously is very skilful. If you want to dine on stunning food and well chosen wines, then look no further. Thank you to all the splendid members of the team for our evening."

Had a light meal in the courtyard, so this review is of the dining experience and NOT the room experience. I stopped by on a really hot day and was after a healthy snack to get me going again on my bike ride. The team was very resourceful in whisking up a bespoke refreshing iced green tea and lemon. The ham croquettes also tasted great. Light crunchy shel giving way to a delicate core. Great experience overall. The courtyard is also beautiful to have a relaxed dining experience. We had the most amazing all round dining and hospitality experience at the Angel this week. Firstly the staff were welcoming and warm whilst maintaining high standards of service, the food was literally fantastic, it’s been a very long time since I have enjoyed a meal so much in such convivial surroundings. There was a really relaxed feel to the restaurant. To top that our room was fab, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Hope to return very soon. Nearby activities: Go take a look at the Church in the village just behind the Angel, it’s amazing.

We stayed at the Angel Inn for our 1st wedding anniversary, we had read good things, but we were genuinely bowled over by how great out experience was. Everything was superb, but the food and wine in particular were astonishing! While staying we had the Full tasting menu, but for pescatarians, with wine pairings. From the Amuse bouche all the way through to the petite fours at the end, the whole menu was perfectly balanced. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Angel. What a find! Loved every minute of our stay. The staff were so attentive on arrival, our room was gorgeous, lovely touches such as air conditioning and under floor heating in the bathroom were appreciated, as well as the huge shower. We enjoyed our glasses of cava on arrival and relaxed in the bar having selected a couple of glasses of wine from the impressive wine list. we had booked the full tasting menu for our stay and decided to add the wine pairing as well.
