"A lovely dining experience. Every mouthful was delicious. This is a big step up from the fare which has become standard at 'gastro-pubs '. Service is excellent. We were lucky to be there for Sunday lunch when it was not too busy, and sat outside in the very pleasant covered dining area. For those who value market produce carefully prepared and beautifully served, you will not be disappointed. I think it was excellent value for money. The desserts were particularly good and beautifully presented. No hesitation in recommending."

"Nice decor and location. The pub was quiet for a Sunday. The service was very average and no smiles for example we complimented the belly pork to be told “that’s nice glad you thought it was ok” where’s the enthusiasm? In terms of the food the roast dinners were great (they should be for the price!! , but the burger was stingy and dry, as well as poorly presented. The crumble was really awful why was the topping in large rock hard chunks and there was hardly any fruit? The icecream on the side was melting before it even arrived a really small portion all in for £8. Should have sent it back but didn’t want to make a fuss.The sticky toffee was ok. The children’s meals are £10 including icecream which was okay as they were quite big portions but not great for tiny ones on our table who only ate 1/3 of it. All in over £70 for a beer, a coke, a roast, a burger and 2 desserts (and 10% tip . Very disappointed considering it’s “Michelin recommended”"

"Visited with my husband to meet my family as it 's our halfway meeting point for lunch we 've been here a good 15 times over a good 10 or so years. Arrived, but as we were walking in, we were just glared at by 4 or 5 staff until I said hello (met with silence) we 've got a table booked was OK after that unnecessarily awkward welcome, though, the other staff did sort of hang around a bit longer when they weren 't needed.... Welcome score 1 out of 5!! We were sat down service was very good after that. Waitress service 5 out of 5. Food was very nice plated very neatly. 5 out of 5 Sat outside in their very nice garden for a coffee afterwards, very nice relaxing- 5 out of 5. Overall score 4 out of 5, due to the initial awkward welcome. Hopefully this improves for our next visit."

"I used to love this place and have left good reviews before, but after my visit last night, I can't do that now. The restaurant was only half full on a Saturday night, which was concerning. My starter, the ham terrine, was delicious, but the bread and piccalillo were not great. The main course I wanted, the blade of beef, was sold out so I ordered the venison cottage pie instead. It was a big mistake - the potato was tasteless and there were only small bits of meat with no flavor or sauce. A year ago, I had the garlic chicken here and it was amazing. Owners, take note - we vote with our money, so get back to your previous standards or risk going out of business."

"Very friendly local village pub in the beautiful village of Appleton. The menu was very well priced and varied with lots of different specials, not your ordinary pub. The burger was outstanding the best I have had in a long long time and the Greek Kebab was delicious. Local ales and ample outside space, perfect for families or couples, it is nice to find somewhere where you can have a meal and you feel you are not paying for over priced food, it is very different food, made with passion, will definitely be going back to try other things on the menu. Really nice chilled ambiance in a relaxed, non stuffy setting."
