"We visited here on a Saturday night, not too busy. Modern clean decor and a country pub. We ordered the lamb kofta for starters with salad and sweet chilli, was very nice. We got a fillet steak and a rib eye steak for main, fillet was much better than rib eye, found it quite fatty. Came with chips, tomato, mushroom and onion rings. All very nice. Sauces were a bit runny. Wines very nice although almost £10 a glass. Pudding we got sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream which was also nice. The only thing that I would mark down on was the friendliness of the staff. Wasn’t bubbly, no real friendly feel, smiling, laughing just felt a bit poor on the service side. Overall I would recommend and I would visit again."

A lovely country pub. Fabulous food. Staff are polite and friendly. Hygiene is excellent. Open afternoons too which is rare I simply can't find fault.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It was quite busy so I recommend making a reservation. The food was excellent with a wide variety to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would definitely recommend it. Our bill came to over £200 for a party of 6 with drinks, and most of us had 3 courses.

We wanted somewhere not too expensive to meet up for mums birthday lunch. Fairly quiet when we arrived but soon got busier with a great biz for a pub nowadays. So you need to book. We soon found out why. Great choice on the menu with specials board aswell. Lovely setting in the pub. Food was everything we expected and liked the importance of veg on their descriptions. Sweet selection also good and tastes homemade rather than bought in. We had a variety of starters, mains of burgers, sea bass, lamb shank to finish with raspberry mouse and sticky toffee.

"I was very impressed by this restaurant! The old building was stunning, with a beautiful fire in the bar and lovely decor in the dining room. The atmosphere was cosy and inviting, with colourful velvet curtains, tartans, nice lighting, and a great photo wall. The menu was varied and exciting, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The veg was excellent, especially the carrot and swede mash, and the roast beef was delicious. The salmon risotto and belly pork were also fantastic. It was nice to have specials in addition to the main menu. The crumble was one of the best I've had, with perfectly cooked fruit and quality ice cream. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to return and try the soup and sandwich during the week, and the pizza cooked outdoors in the summer!"

"We popped in here following a visit to the Ryedale Museum (which is well worth a visit). The weather was awful and we were wet and needed something warm and comforting and we were not disappointed. We were made very welcome by the staff there and with two Greyhounds we sat in the comfortable dog seating area. We had home made soup and a panini for a decent price. This was followed by a large syrup sponge which was devine. The sponge was light and fluffy, the ice-cream was beautiful and the portion was huge. All the food is home made which is apparent by the quality you receive. If you you visit the museum and show your ticket you get 20% off. This is a wonderful place for top notch food and a warm welcome. Well worth a visit."

"2 older members of my family where on holiday in the area they walked 2 miles to come for a Sunday dinner at this pub the staff where very rude and says they could not have a big table as there is only 2 of them and there was no small tables available this is disgusting when they walked 2 mile just to visit Service: 1 Location: 3"

"We made a last-minute reservation for dinner and had a wonderful time at this pub. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff was lovely. They even made my children feel welcome and engaged with them. The food was delicious, with generous portion sizes. The only minor complaint, and this is just me being picky, was that the vegetables were a bit too al dente for my liking. I can't fathom why anyone would criticize the service here - Hutton le Hole is truly a hidden gem."

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
